Excellent for running, February 26, 2011
This review is from: Darn Tough Coolmax 1/4 Sock Mesh (Apparel)
I am a serious runner (1200 miles per year) and am always interested in trying new socks for running. I previously bought the cushioned version of these socks (which I have reviewed on Amazon and really like), and wanted to try the non-cushioned mesh version, which is a thinner pair of socks. After running in them, it is clear why they have earned mainly five star reviews.
First a word about sizing. If in doubt, order a size up. I wear a size 8 street shoe and 9 1/2 running shoe. When I first ordered the cushioned version I got a medium size, which fit me--but just barely. So I ordered this sock in a large and it fits much better.
This sock is very comfortable to wear and lets my feet breath while running. Unlike cheaper socks, these socks are not drenched with sweat after a long run (10 miles).
I use minimalist running shoes that are not cushioned (Nike Free Run+). However, even with the heavily cushioned running shoes that I used to wear before I read Born to Run, these socks still fit comfortably (NOTE: if you use heavily cushioned running shoes, then the cushioned version of these socks will probably be too snug a fit since they are thicker).
I also own the wool version of these socks, which fit and perform just as well as these socks. In cold weather both the wool and cool max socks keep my feet equally warm. However, wool does have the advantage of staying warm when wet, which I have put to the test when accidentally stepping into slush puddles when running outside in the winter.
Bottom line: These socks are not inexpensive, but work really well. I recommend them for runners.

Great Socks, August 23, 2010
This review is from: Darn Tough Coolmax 1/4 Sock Mesh (Apparel)
These are by far my favorite summer-time socks. They keep my feet comfortable and dry in the hot summer months (despite wearing hot leather horseback riding boots). I have a few pairs that I rotate through, and have had them for a little over a year now, and they're still going strong. I am hard on socks, and these socks truly are "darn tough"!
