Excellent - almost encyclopedic, July 7, 2009
This review is from: Dharana Darshan-Yogic,Tantric and Upanishadic Practices of Concentration and Visualization (Paperback)
Forty pages of to-the-point and inspiring introduction, followed by 400 pages of practices drawn from many ancient yogic and tantric texts. They are so logical and well thought-out I am almost afraid to practice many of them -- because I know they will work and change me permanently. There are enough practices and ideas in here to keep even a serious sadhaka busy for years. The variety too is staggering, everything from mantra and ajapa (silent/internal mantra), to visualizations, open-eye concentration on objects, and so on and so forth. It is like someone delved into all these ancient, opaque Sanskrit texts and pulled out every useful bit of information, and then put it all into easy-to-read, plain English.
In fact, it's not 'like' someone did that, Swami Niranjananda Saraswati has done exactly that. Highly recommended.

Advanced text on yogic techniques and insights, January 15, 2009
This review is from: Dharana Darshan-Yogic,Tantric and Upanishadic Practices of Concentration and Visualization (Paperback)
To those practicing kundalini style yoga techniques, this is a very practical book of ways to enhance energetic transformation. Also explains some of the advanced yogic perceptions like the gold ring that comes into awareness during yoni mudra, and the yogic interpretation of that phenomenon. This information was reputedly only passed from guru to student until now. But now you too can access this information too. What a good deal that is.

together with "kundalini and tantra" "ancient technique of kriya..." and "mudra .... bandhas" definitly an amazing book!
as a yoga teacher I spent quite a while in india; I got a yoga acharya degree, a mantra initiation which was mindblowing; I am esp interested in developing ashtanga yoga - leading to step 6 and 7 - concentration and mediation, and these sadhana exercises in this book lead exactly to there;
2009 I was sad because I decided not to go to india but australia instead - when I had a holiday in byron bay and spent some time in a bookshop I couldnt beieve my eyes, in this book - esp for my favorite mantra "SO HUM".... are many of the higher teachings of how to activate the chakras, unlock the granthis, work on the most important nadis, tratak e.g. which I hoped to get in the yoga school of bihar...
the exercises are described in every detail and together with the kriyas - described in "ancient kriya and tantra ..." - lead to a very one pointed mind and deep meditation;
AAA+ ;-) Vigneshvara / proYoga
