2.0 out of 5 stars Bummer!
I am a huge Hall & Oates fan. I've seen them live twice in the 80s and have the most amazing cassette tape of a live performance of theirs from the early 80s recorded from a radio program. I was prepared to love this live CD, but I was very disappointed. The sound and music are incredible, however Daryl Hall's voice has really changed for the worse since their heyday...

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Performance!!!, November 27, 2008
This review is from: Daryl Hall & John Oates-Live at the Troubadour(CD/DVD) (Audio CD)
It hardly seems as though thirty-five years have passed since Daryl Hall and John Oates played The Troubadour. These gentlemen are like a fine wine - they get better with age! If you are looking for a cookie cutter recording of the songs you know and love, this CD may not be right for you. That being said, I submit to you that with the new arrangements and instrumentation found on this CD, your favorite songs will sound better than ever!
What is apparent to the listener is the fact that the vocal performances and harmonies are stronger and more intense than ever before. In addition, the multi-faceted and extremely talented T-Bone Wolk and Charlie DeChant shine bright during this performance.
As for the DVD part of the package... I cannot give it such high reviews. The editor on the project has seen fit to jam the performance full of extremely quick cuts - enough to cause the viewer to need a dose of Dramamine. There are blatant mis-synched shots where Daryl doesn't even look like he's singing the same song as being played. I am aware that this was a two night, best of, compilation. But, I believe that any of their single song performances would have served the viewer better than what was slapped together. It was a good effort, but I feel more of the performance electricity by listening to the CD than watching the DVD.
If you are a die hard fan that HAS to see the performance in order to take away the magic, then buy the combo. If you are truly a music aficionado, and simply want to envelop yourself in the joy that is "Hall and Oates," then the CD is the way to go.
For me, listening to "When the Morning Comes," brings me back to a moment in time when a young child fell in love, simply by turning on her AM radio.
So, on this Thanksgiving night, I give thanks that Daryl and John (and all which encompass Hall and Oates) continue to share their gift with all of us!

I bought this set after seeing Hall and Oates in concert in a small venue. They were great at that concert, but it was relatively short, as concerts go. They mentioned this CD/DVD set to hear more of our favorites. I have their CDs from the 70's and 80's. Live at the Troubadour has all of their big hits, and even my favorites from their early years. Hall and Oates are fantastic in concert, the musicians are great, and the DVD is great to watch!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hall & Oates Fan Must Have, January 8, 2009

If you are a fan of Hall & Oates, you must get this set. I saw them in Atlantic City a few weeks before this concert and loved the concert and them so I had to have this set. It's almost as good as seeing them live and they play all the great Hall & Oates that the fans love. It's also great to watch them play. I can leave the DVD at home to watch (almost daily) and take the CD's with me in the car.

Daryl Hall & John Oates sound as good as ever in this 3-disc set. (One DVD and two audio CD's of the show). They play all their big hits in this two-hour semi-acoustic show reminiscent of the early '90's shows.

They also throw-in some surprises like "When The Morning Comes" and the severely over-looked "It's Uncanny".

Extras on the DVD include separate interviews with Daryl and John.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daryl Hall & John Oates: Live at the Troubadour, December 28, 2008

Daryl Hall & John Oates- Live at the Troubadour I bought two copies: one for me and another for my son who is a musician. This live performance absolutely rocks! What great performers and musicians Daryl and John are --- not to mention the entire band. This acoustic performance at the Troubadour is a must for anyone who's a Hall & Oates fan; or even if not, they'd become one just by watching this (or listening to the CDs). These guys certainly get better with age --- my hat's off to them! My personal favorites are: Getaway Car, Uncanny and those they play from their Abandoned Luncheonette album. They truly are the Best Duo of all times.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mellow Acoustic, September 22, 2011
This review is from: Daryl Hall & John Oates-Live at the Troubadour(CD/DVD) (Audio CD)
If you are hardwired to the Hall and Oates pop rock versions of their hits, be prepared for some adjustments as this DVD essentially reinterprets the songs.

First of all, this concert was staged at the Troubadour where Hall and Oates first played in 1973. In this intimate venue for a crowd of 400, the musical set up is very acoustic heavy. Three people in the band play guitars with Daryl Hall changing guitars often.

The set list is pretty eclectic. There's a Daryl Hall solo (Cab Driver) and stuff which they had not performed live before (When The Morning Comes). In terms of the musical arrangements, certain songs reminded me of the Eagles and Bruce Hornsby And The Range (Getaway Car). However I don't think it worked for Maneater, though She's Gone and Rich Girl came off great. You Make My Dreams is the closest to the album version.

Overall, the mood is pretty mellow, with enough hits to satisfy fans with a taste of old and new and the unfamiliar. Live At The Troubadour will make a nice compliment to your existing Hall and Oates collection.

I have seen this concert on The HDNET Channel and I enjoyed it so much I recorded it on my DVR and played it several times over
I had to play Cab Driver before I went to bed because it was a mellow, smooth sound and the classic tunes of Rich Girl, Out of Touch,
Sara Smile and One on One were great. So when I found out it was on CD I had to get it to play in my car. So if you want a great live
CD plus a Bonus DVD of the concert, get it or your Out Of Touch.

Over all a pretty good concert-my only complaint being that it was out of sync in a couple of parts but not too distracting. When you watch this you will remember why you love their music. A toe tappin good time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best live concert on a DVD!, June 16, 2010

If you are looking for a permanent memory of a Hall & Oates live concert, this is the best/perfect CD/DVD combo you can buy. After seeing them live so many times, I didn't think that a DVD would put me back in the concert seats, while at home. If can't get enough watching them, then pop in the CD. This a phenomenal duo.
