This review is from: Mahler: Das Lied Von der Erde (MP3 Download)
This Recording Should Be Pulled From Amazon
------------------------------------------- The famous and wonderful performance of Das Lied von der Erde by Mahler, as sung by the famous and tragic Kathleen Ferrier and conducted by Mahler protégé Bruno Walter, is wasted in this un-listen-able butchering of the original recording. First, it was digitized from LP, and second, the pops were poorly removed, not by hand, but by algorithm. That would be barely tolerable. But in addition there are skips, so that whole parts of the performance are missing, right from the middle, as the needle skipped forward over circlets of analog groove. Somebody needs to make an MP3 from the master tapes and not try to palm off this amateur job as professional. It is not worth $5, not worth 5 cents. Anyone who had heard, who knew the music to Das Lied, can hear that little pieces thruout are missing. The anti-pop software took out the loud sound but clearly no one listened to the final product, because it just isn't the music that Mahler wrote, or that Kathleen sang. Pah. I give it three onions for being *almost* brilliant and amazing, but in fact being an LP I would throw out as being too damaged to enjoy a listen. Instead I wince. --Maxx Cassidy (Nerodog).
