5.0 out of 5 stars Equally beautiful and strange, December 29, 1999

This review is from: Das Tagebuch Der Hanna (Audio CD)
Recipe for Angizia: take one part Mozart, take one part death metal, stir thoroughly. This is the wierdest music I ever heard and I love it! Death vocals along with female soprano with awesome classical compositions of keyboards and flute with metal guitars. I always knew metal and classical belong together.

This review is from: Das Tagebuch Der Hanna (Audio CD)
The title of this album, which translates to The Diary of Hanna Anikin, is based on a short story that the founder of this band, Michael Haas, wrote. Its a brilliantly composed and beautifully executed album that one could never become sick of!

This album, as well as the band themselves, faced a bit of a problem when the album was being marketed toward the death metal and black metal crowds. While this album certainly has elements of metal with the distorted guitar riffs in the background, it shouldn't be confused with a typical metal album. It is much better composed and much more in-depth. However, if you're looking for true black metal with classical composition, check out early works by Satyricon or Darkthrone.

The classical pieces and the opera vocals are more theatrical in style - they weren't meant to be perfect, however, to the untrained ear they do sound perfect. Each track has perfect balance and the end of every track and the beginning of a new one actually flows the way the turning of a page would.

I would only recommend this album for people who would welcome variety in the music that they listen to. If you're looking for straight death metal or black metal, then you might not like this album if you haven't heard samples. Also if you're a fan of this band, take the time to write to the founder, Michael Haas. He actually takes the time to write back to you!
