"Dasher Gets Adopted" is ideal for parents introducing a new family member to the household.

Dasher is a beautiful greyhound who loves to feel the wind swishing past her face and the sand spraying behind her feet as she sprints around the race track. She is confident because she knows where she lives and what is expected of her. One day, all this changes.

Dasher learns she is being adopted and meets her new family for the first time. Suddenly, everything and everyone around her is different. John, Georgia, and their son Bobby, love Dasher and want her to be happy. But Dasher is confused and scared. Dasher's hope that everything will work out is crushed as she makes mistake after mistake. Frightened and unsure, she flees, but soon finds herself lost and in danger from cars and traffic.

John, Georgia, and Bobby find Dasher, and are relieved that she is safe and unharmed. They bring her home, where they begin again to be a family. Time, patience, and bonding through shared activites, helps Dasher learn to love and trust her family. She realizes that adoption is a good thing and that she is very lucky.

5.0 out of 5 stars A heartfelt story every family will love., December 7, 2000
This review is from: Dasher Gets Adopted (Hardcover)
I recommend this book to families everywhere who wish to tell a young child a story about love, trust, and the value of believing in your hopes, dreams and wishes. "Dasher Gets Adopted" follows the adventures of a young Greyhound dog who is adopted by a loving family. While trying to adjust to her new surroundings and family, Dasher makes mistakes, feels guilty and is sometimes afraid of what will happen to her. However, her new family doesn't scold her or make her feel guilty. They teach her about her new surroundings, and let her feel their love through patience and example. Trying to "fit in" to any new circumstance can be just as scarey for a young child, as it is for an adult.

Greyhounds, like young children, are fast on their feet, especially when they are headed into a dangerous situation they have no knowledge of. When an open door presents itself, Dasher enters an unprotected world. Will she survive?

You must read the ending to this wonderful story to embrace the full meaning of one family's love. I trust that you will see many of your own life's experiences showcased in this precious book.

A lighthearted story with deep inner meaning. I highly recommend "Dasher Gets Adopted." It can help a child understand self-worth, expectations, disappointments, victory, trust and love.
