Wee, Think Ye? Nay, I say!, November 15, 2000
This review is from: The Dastardly Dashing of Wee Expectations (Paperback)
My memories of this book are tinged with some sadness. You see, I was smack dab in the middle of enjoying this book and I left it at a friend's house who stopped speaking to me soon after and he never gave it back.
But, I am going to order a copy and finish the hilarious journey I began when I started reading it. This book is TRULY one-of-a-kind, memorable, (I am a person who RARELY has the attention span to finish a book, and this one is STILL fresh in my mind THREE YEARS AFTER I LOST IT.)
Are you the kind of person who finds yourself laughing at strange, obscure things? Do you get phrases and images caught in your head and you just laugh and laugh at your own ridiculous sense of humor? Well, this author truly satisfied my obscure and insatiable sense of humor. Rarely have I read an author who was so adept at putting words together in such a hilarious way.
The book is about the trials and tribulations of a struggling graduate student, studying English, I believe (when I found the book at the Strand bookstore, I too was a struggling graduate student). The author MUST have been a graduate student at one time, since he so accurately gets at the many pretensions, traps, and anxieties of graduate life.
So to all of you graduate students out there - if you are up much too late trying to untie the knot of discursively generated hegemonic social paradigms, stop, breath, and GET A COPY OF THIS BOOK. You'll be laughing within minutes.
And to all of you out there who need a book that's going to make you LAUGH, please buy this book. This author really understands the virtue of comic relief.
