3.0 out of 5 stars Lost in the crowd, February 8, 2008
This review is from: Dat Type of Gurl (Audio CD)
Rasheeda is an emcee whose name I'd been hearing from time to time, but she hasn't really ever received a whole lot of buzz. At any rate, I picked up her latest album Dat Type of Gurl, and it's pretty decent.

One satisfying thing is that Rasheeda does a good job with otherwise played-out subject matter, as shown on the blingin' tracks "U Can Get It" and "Flawsin". This is also evident on sexual songs like "Touch Ya Toes (Bend Ova)" as well as the first single "My Bubble Gum". But even more addictive than those songs is the ode to her catchphrase, "Georgia Peach", which is what she calls her goods (but sexuality doesn't ALWAYS work; more on that later).

There are a few filler tracks on here though, like "Dance Flo" (with Lil' Mama) and the obligatory Jazze Phizzle productizzle, "Holla At Me" (also featuring Birdman), not to mention the questionable three-in-a-row of "Doin This", "Let It Clap" and "Neva Wanna Leave" (featuring Fabo of D4L, Akon and Kandi, respectively). The latter is a sexual song gone wrong, and Kandi also shows up on the necessary end-of-album remix-of-the-first-single, along with Diamond and Princess of Crime Mob. Princess actually doesn't sound half-bad this time around, but Diamond's speed-rapping third verse leaves much to be desired.

There's also "Poppin' Bottles", where Rasheeda sounds fine but Pastor Troy sounds wack as usual. I was still going to give this album three-and-a-half stars, but I knocked it down to three when I discovered that half of the songs on here were already on her previous album, Georgia Peach. Dat Type of Gurl isn't garbage, but it might have been worth at least four stars had she left the guest stars behind (and if more of the songs were original).

3.0 out of 5 stars First things first, I 'Sheeda..., July 25, 2007
This review is from: Dat Type of Gurl (Audio CD)
Rasheeda's last album, Georgia Peach, was a guilty pleasure of mine. Are her lyrics profound? No. Does she have extremely limited subject matter? Yes. Does she have great rapping skills? Well... not really. But I cannot deny that the production, her catchy refrains and her charismatic delivery were infectious. So when I saw she was releasing this new album, I was excited. Then I looked at the tracklist and realized... about half of these songs were on her last album!

So I figured she was probably trying to take the best tracks from Georgia Peach and mix them with some great brand new songs; an upgrade. (Although I liked the last album very much, there were still a few flaws.) When I finally listened, I was disappointed. She chose most of the old songs pretty well, but I disagree with the inclusion of "Georgia Peach," "Let It Clap" and "Poppin' Bottles," which were some of my least favorites from the previous effort. ("Don't Hate" should've definitely been here.) But the real problem is the new songs. "Flawsin'" is great and so is the remix of "My Bubble Gum," but that's about it. The rest of the new additions are not memorable and have way too many guest appearances. All in all, this is a downgrade (or just a dirty money-making scheme) in my book. If you want some guilty pleasure crunk music from Rasheeda, buy Georgia Peach, instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rasheeda: The Queen Of Crunk Has Done It Again!!, June 22, 2007
This review is from: Dat Type of Gurl (Audio CD)
Yo! Once again I back to write another review for my girl Rasheeda. I have all of her album from Dirty South, A Ghetto Dream, Georgia Peach, and now Dat Type of Gurl. This album tops them all. She has a style that many other female rappers can't compare to and she is beautiful. The remix to "My Bubble Gum" is off da chain. Every song on this album is crunk. Eventhough she has a few songs off of Georgia Peach on here I still feel that this is an amazing album. I hope she comes out with another one soon. Yo Rasheeda, if you ever see this get at ya boy. I love your music ever since Da Kaperz (which I still have a copy of) and I hope that you come to Virginia (eventhough most people here don't know who you are) for a show one day. If not hook ya boy and his friends up with some tickets. I love everything about. You are so crunk. I have been a fan for a long time and if I was able to meet you (and maybe get on a song with cuz a n*** got vocals and rap skills) a dream I have wanted for a long time will come true to see you and even get tickets to a concert from you. You if you do see this holla at me in my email at either [...] or [...] If anyone doesnt have this cd, you are missig out on another CRUNK album for the Queen, RASHEEDA. LOVE YA RASHEEDA.
