Biography

Animal Collective are an experimental group who produce a beautiful and challenging type of music that has made them critical darlings in recent years.

The members met each other during their school and college years in America, where they swapped tapes of their solo music and assimilated ideas from each other.

The membership of the band is as fluid as the music, with members Avey Tare (Dave… Read more in Amazon's Animal Collective Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Really great music, January 17, 2005

This review is from: Data 80 (Audio CD)
This is really great music... to bad they never really took off. I know you can't listen to samples, which is annoying, but I can tell you, it's alot like Daft Punk or Royksopp. Trust me, you will like it if you like either of those. I just can't stop playing this and it's about a half year since I bought it! The best thing about this music is that all the voices are digitized, creating a really cool effect. If you go into a Barns & Nobles, you can listen to a sample on their music machines.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vocode Your Love, April 5, 2004
This review is from: Data 80 (Audio CD)
Hands down one of the best albums that I have listened to in a very long time... The music, the composition, and the harmony... It is so good... You can so just chill and get a good vibe to it... Play it for your girlfriend... Show your silly and sensitive side at the same time...

4.0 out of 5 stars Data 80 - Data 80, February 24, 2011
This review is from: Data 80 (Audio CD)
Bright and glossy 80s-style techno, courtesy of Mr. Hakan Lidbo. But instead of much of the 'electroclash' coming out these days, DATA 80 goes for the highly polished sheen of pop ("Love Will Always Find You," for instance), rather than gloomy new wave. Plenty of vocoder, for those who like that sort of stuff. Lidbo messes with the system, however, by throwing in slightly glitchy touches that keep the listener on his toes. While the majority of the tracks are upbeat, "The Boy Who Grew Up to Be A Boy (Extended Mix)" goes a slower route, an electronic ballad with vocoder, while the non-extended version is all glitchy electro. The real gem of the bunch, however, is "Don't Believe Me," the best meta-pop song I've ever heard. It's self-referential and irreverent, which automatically puts it on my spin list. A great album altogether.
