A concise methodology on development and implementation.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Data Warehouse Method, The (Hardcover)
Of all the data warehouse books I have read, most have been lame, others have been too "ivory tower", this one falls where System Architects need it the most. There are defined techniques that will get your project off the ground, with the ability to follow it through to implementation. In addition, being a "code grabber" the CD in the book gives code that is usable in the real world.

Not For ME!,
By Clay Bosler (Colorado Springs) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Data Warehouse Method, The (Hardcover)
Sorry folks -- this book just didn't work for me. I'm pretty technically savvy (BSEE, MCSD), but I just couldn't get much out of this tome. The language is stunningly obscure to me (read the authors' notes above, then imagine if they got "scholarly"), and the meat just wasn't there for me and my little three-person warehousing project. Adding to the difficulty -- there must be at least one typo per paragraph, which I find extremely distracting. This is the only book I've ever sent back.

Great management resource,
This review is from: Data Warehouse Method, The (Hardcover)
A recurring theme in this book is Discipline, Quality, and Team. There is more to leading a successful data warehousing project than understanding the technical terminology - although that is covered here as well. What this book brought out to me was data warehousing as a whole - why its necessary, how to plan for it, Return On Investment, and design/collaboration considerations for the management team as well as technical design, detailed implementation and support for the development team. I bought a copy for my technical lead too. I recommend it.

Compelling and practical data warehousing guide,
By A Customer
This review is from: Data Warehouse Method, The (Hardcover)
I found this text to contain very insightful and practical strategies for creating success in data warehousing efforts. A lot of technology books place too much focus on the technology and tools themselves rather than the processes that are required to be successful. The methods that Mr. Debevoise describes shows how the different technologies are used together from a engineering point of view. Creating a data warehouse solution with a diverse collection of highly technical components requires much more than a simple understanding of the components themselves. The author of "The Data Warehouse Method" effectively demonstrates how to deploy a successful data warehouse project, and demonstrates a unique level of expertise in his profession. I would recommend this book to anyone who is serious about building a working solution in the enterprise.

Brings together traditional DW methods and OO Concepts well,
By A Customer
This review is from: Data Warehouse Method, The (Hardcover)
Not a book for the beginner in either arena, this is an in-depth treatment of OO and UML concepts applied to the Data Warehouse methodology. Highly recommended, especially if you are strong in system design and development, but relatively new to formality in data warehouse methodology. This is a good companion book to The Lifecycle Toolkit, by Ralph Kimball.
