4.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for learning DataCAD, December 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: DataCAD for Architects and Designers (Paperback)
This 1995 book covers DataCAD,(the number two architectural CAD software behind Auto***),up through version 6. At this writing DataCAD is up to ver.8.06 and is now a Windows 95 product instead of the DOS version the 1995 book covers. Although this book is being updated for the latest version of DataCAD, the 1995 book is still quite valuable, since the vast majority of the commands remain the same. This book will show you a lot of the shortcuts the DataCAD tutorial does not. The examples and lessons in the book are straightforward and very applicable to the actual work done in an architecural office. This book will have you up and running in no time. Of course, being productive quickly may also have to do with the fact that DataCAD is one of the easiest-to-learn architectural CAD programs in the marketplace; but that's another story. A definite "buy-it" book.

Unfortunately, this book was an outdated version to the new version of datacad 8. This book was for datacad 7. It shows you the basic and thats about it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, but dated, May 18, 2011
This review is from: DataCAD for Architects and Designers (Paperback)
This book was basically written for DataCad 5, and updated slightly to accomodate DataCad 7. Since DataCad is now up to version 13, some of what is in the book does not match later versions. That outdated material is mainly about installing the software and using a printer or plotter.

The book is very well written. It appears to have been intended as a textbook. The instructions are the clearest I've seen for a CAD textbook. It would be a good book for a person just starting to use DataCad to have.

At the time of this writing, it appears that there are no books covering the latest
versions of DataCad. The manual that comes with the software (on the CD), is the only book-type of information that I have found. You probably wouldn't want to print it out, because it's about 600 pages long.

There is a "Project book" that is available, but I haven't used it.
