SITANSU S. MITTRA holds two Master's and a Doctorate degree in mathematics from the University of Calcutta, University of Toronto, and Lehigh University respectively. He was the recipient of the Eshan Scholarship (University of Calcutta), Fullbright Scholarship (Government of U.S.A.), and Commonwealth Scholarship (Government of Canada). He taught at the graduate department of mathematics in the University of Calcutta and worked as a computer scientist in USA holding positions in industry and government. So far he has published four books in computer science from John Wiley & Sons, Prentice-Hall, Inc. and Springer-Verlag and over 35 technical papers on mathematics and computer science. He was a Speaker at Oracle International User Conference in 1989, 1990, and 2003.
His hobby for the last 30+ years has been the study and research of Bengali language, literature, history, and culture. His articles have been published in several Bengali magazines including Sangbad Bichitra (New York), Kallol Sahitya Patrika (New Jersey), Shatabdir Sandhikhsanay (magazine of the 20th Annual North American Bengali Conference) and Chayanika (Kolkata). He was the Chairman of the Seminar and Panel Discussion section of the eleventh Annual North American Bengali Conference (Banga Sammelan) held in Boston in 1991. He has given talks on Bengali literary and cultural topics in several sessions of the Banga Sammelan held in U.S.A. and Canada. He was the Principal of Banitirtha, the school for Bengali language, literature, history, and culture in the greater Boston area. His book, Bengal's Renaissance: An Era of Multi-faceted Growth, was published from Kolkata in 2003. He is well versed in Sanskrit and has published and lectured about the Vedas, the Geeta, and the works of Kalidasa.
