3.0 out of 5 stars What the music lacks in diversity is certainly made up in passion, January 23, 2008
This review is from: Date With Daylight (Audio CD)
The Good
Syncopated drum beats and piercing guitar tones lead the charge on "Back to the Start." A wide rage of vocal harmonies is flexed on "Skin Your Teeth." "No Time for Queens" uses meaty riffs, a hypnotic guitar lick, and enduring vocal melodies to draw you in. Twangy riffage and driving rhythms kick "Hiss and Hearse" into overdrive. "I Only Sleepwalk" blends echoed vocals with blended harmonies to create a catchy yet somewhat haunting track.

The Bad
The album as a whole lacks diversity. It's as if the band takes one pattern and repeats it with different chords and riffs.

The Verdict
A Date with Daylight delivers lots of pop-rock melodies with just enough edge to enter the rock arena. What the music lacks in diversity is certainly made up in passion and melody.

3.0 out of 5 stars not bad....but not good either, July 31, 2007

I just gave "The Strangers Six - A Date With Daylight" a listen and I was not that impressed. The CD is not bad, but nothing jumped out as being a great song. The vocals lack any kind of `punch'. The guitar riffs are well done, but not very catchy. Reviews call this the perfect fusion of rock, hard rock and punk., but it seems way to soft, slow and poppy to fit into ANY o those genres.

To me the only songs that seemed worth a second listen are Track 1 "Back To The Start" and Track 11 "I Can Only Sleepwalk". Maybe the album will grow on me if I give it a few more listens, but it seems like a slower, sappier, less-catchy version of Sugarcult. If you already like the band you might like this album, but as someone who had never heard of The Strangers Six before today, I think there are a lot better bands out there that I could spend my money on.

All in all...to me this is a great album to put on in the background and have some pop-rock playing. But I can't see myself ever going out of my way to put it in a CD player. Not horrible, but not great.
