Classic teenage woes..., December 27, 2006
This review is from: A Date for Diane (Paperback)
Fifteen-year-old Diane Graham is full of panic when her friends begin dating. Suddenly, all the typical summer activities she's dreamed of all year -- swimming, hiking, picnics -- are ruined, because all her friends are pairing off.
But Diane's got a bit of a crush on her childhood friend Jim. When he returns her attention, she's thrilled...until, of course, their disastrous first date, where they run into his parents at the drugstore, and Diane's huge dog insists on following them home!
Then, to make matters worse, Diane learns that her cousin Henrietta is coming for a visit. Remembering the girl as a quiet, unfashionable geek, Diane wonders how on earth she can introduce such a cousin to her friends. Then, Diane discovers she's got a totally different problem...in the few years since she last saw Henrietta, the girl has grown into a flirtatious troublemaker insistent upon getting between Diane, Jim and all their friends.
Although this story is set some fifty years ago, readers can easily relate to Diane's timeless teenage problems, and enjoy finding out such an everyday yet strong character goes about tackling them.
