Book Description

August 1, 2002

What are the ten telltale signs that date #2 will take place in hell? Is it better to bounce than to break? How do you navigate the squiggly line between ex-lover and now friends? Is it a date or just coffee? For women struggling to understand the nongirlfriend-girlfriend's refusal to bear any semblance to sanity, logic, or good manners, this nuts-and-bolts guide is the answer. Understanding that love involves equal parts romance, lust, and neuroses, Mo Brownsey will guide you through the mysteries of amour, whether by helping you figure out what is wrong with the people you have been dating, helping you find people you should be dating, showing you how to craft a personal ad designed to entice babes but repel psyche-sucking wackos, or describing ten surefire ways to avoid Lesbian Bed Death. Equally wise and witty, Is It a Date or Just Coffee? will have you navigating the minefield of romance (including the horrors of Internet dating) as if you were soldier of passion. Whether you are single, dating, married, or not sure which, this is the book for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Winner of the WordWeaving Award for Excellence, July 9, 2004
This review is from: Is It a Date or Just Coffee?: The Gay Girl's Guide to Dating, Sex, and Romance (Paperback)
Forty years of heterosexual living did not prepare me for the dilemma of discerning IS IT A DATE OR JUST COFFEE when I started dating women. Well, perhaps dating was too strong a word since it always seems to turn out to be coffee. When straight gals meet straight guys, they know what to expect. With gay-gal dating, they seem to be showering together before reaching a consensus as to whether or not they are friends or something more. Fortunately, Mo Brownsey takes some of the confusion out gay-gal dating with her wonderful book.

From being single, relationships, breakups and mourning, Brownsey covers it all. Need help identifying the dreaded lesbian bed death? Not sure if it's lust or love? Considering multiple partner relationships? Mo supplies the answers along with tongue-in-cheek comedy that will keep you howling with laughter no matter where you are concerning gay-gal relationships. I admit to suffering from STD myself (Sexually Transmitted Denial). For gals like me who find themselves in the midst of redefining their sexuality, and refuse to take the whole dating thing too seriously, Mo Brownsey's book is the definitive answer for the basics of gay-gal dating. Her comedic approach to relationships, breakups, recovery and sex is an indispensable guide for those new to this lifestyle as well as gay-gals who've always know that they weren't straight but love a good laugh. Indeed, straight or lesbian, all women will find themselves in this remarkably astute book. IS IT A DATE OR JUST COFFEE earns the WordWeaving Award for Excellence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and well-written!, September 30, 2002

This review is from: Is It a Date or Just Coffee?: The Gay Girl's Guide to Dating, Sex, and Romance (Paperback)
I originally read a review for this in the Gay & Lesbian section of London's Time Out magazine and just had to pick it up!

The only thing that frustrated me was that it seems to be more aimed toward the experienced Lesbian/Bisexual woman than toward newcomers to the scene. However, it is a witty commentary on and guide to same-sex girl relationships and I thought that overall it was a great read. Reading the book really makes me want to see Mo live! This is less a resource guide than a tongue-in-cheek commentary on all aspects of Lesbian singlehood, relationships and dating. A good read for anyone with a sense of humor..gay or straight.
