5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, August 27, 2008
This review is from: Date Night in a Minivan: Revving Up Your Marriage after Kids Arrive (Paperback)
This book was wonderful in making me realize that I am not alone! My husband always makes me feel like I am being ridiculous for the way I act when it comes to becoming stressed out over kids and house, but this book showed me that I am the average woman/mother and gives great tips on how to not be "ridiculous." Whether you argue over your husband "not helping" (kids or house)or about him "not doing it right" this book is great! Well worth reading and yes, even taking notes from!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A funny read with substance, April 23, 2008
This review is from: Date Night in a Minivan: Revving Up Your Marriage after Kids Arrive (Paperback)
The chapter on maternal gatekeeping is worth the cost of the book. You probably don't know what that is and you might think you aren't guilty when you find out, but give it a little time and you might see some things you couldn't before. This is a funny book with a lot of substance.

Lorilee Craker never disappoints! She has an ability to take an otherwise daunting topic and turn it into a fun journey! I saw myself and my marriage in this book on several occasions ~ along with tips and recommendations how my husband and I can rediscover "us." (Remember...there used to be an "us" before THEY came along!!)

Although the reading format is light and easy (i.e. you can read it between kids naptimes, while watching your daughter's volleyball practice, or curled up at night), the problem-solving is sound, and the reminders useful.

I gladly pre-ordered this book, and will recommend it to my friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Worth While Read, April 6, 2011
I would recommend this book. There was one chapter that I wasn't totally on board with but the rest of the book was very helpful and opened my eyes to things I'm doing that may sabatage my own efforts as a wife & mother. The maternal gatekeeping chapter was worth it for me as well.

I did not however completely agree with the fact that the book seemed to state that it was completely okay for your husband to not put his dirty socks in the hamper or to help with the kids. I work a full-time job outside of the home as well and I can be just as tired as him when it comes to doing the "extra" stuff around the house. It didn't detour me reading the rest of the book and I do believe our role as wives and mothers dictate that we serve our family by the acts of love that we do, all I'm saying is that your husband should want to help out a little too. It can't be completely one-sided, no matter how great a Christian, resentment can grow . . .

Overall, a really good read, would recommend and I'll keep this book on hand to go back and review again :)

This book is great for couples trying to understand each other on a variety of topics. It is specifically designed for after baby comes, but it would be great just before marriage or early in marriage. It addresses several topics that can result in meaningful conversation and strengthen any marriage.
