4.0 out of 5 stars I laughed out loud!
DATE WITH THE PERFECT DEAD MAN is an engaging and humorous entry in the Hannah and Kiki mystery series. These two sisters don't let a little thing like being of retirement age slow them down one bit! Kiki dresses like a teenager and has the hormones to match. Hannah is more dignified and reserved, but she still manages to keep a man or two on her string. What's more,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Should have stayed with a good thing !
The first book was certainly enough fun to make me come back for # 2.I liked these sisters, and the humor was grand.Griffin's second book appears a pale effort. The language was simply not needed for a good read, not in this genre anyway.Agatha Christie never needed to talk in this manner, and Griffin certainly lost whatever charm she had when she made this raunchy attempt.

What's more, they are able to investigate and solve murders with panache.

I didn't figure out who killed the obnoxious but still glamorous Hollywood bigshot until all was revealed at the end of the book, so the author was successful in that respect (a major plus for me). This is one of the funniest books I've read this year. Be sure to read both books in this series. I'm waiting for the next one to be published.

Charming characters in a great story make this murder mystery a wonderful find.

Kiki and Hannah are a great team. Smart, funny and entertaining to say the least, I loved every page of their witty banter. I am surprised anyone could find this mystery, which is wholesome compared to most novels, offensive. I can't wait to spend more time with these sisters.

5.0 out of 5 stars a wonderful surprise, August 13, 1999

I admit "Date With the Perfect Dead Man" was a beach blanket pass-along, but what an unexpected treat! The main characters were funny, randy, interesting, and ultimately as competent as they needed to be. Be sure to read this breezy little number before you see the movie--that's right, I'm sure there's going to be a movie!

I discovered Annie Griffin when my local bookstore recommended her first book. When I heard her second mystery was available, I rushed here to get it. It doesn't disappoint - bringing back two warm and funny sisters in a great new plot. Kudos to Griffin and hellos to my fellow Griffin fans!

Hannah and Kiki are at their finest in this mystery. The people of Hillsboro are as strange as ever. A famous has-been director agrees to be the guest of honor at the little town's film festival. Femme Fatale(or fatal?) wannabe Kiki leaves the opening banquet with the great director, only to end up with yet another dead would-be lover on her hands. As usual, she calls her big sister to help her out. Hannah very cleverly solves the mystery, saving sister, niece, and neighbor along the way.

I didn't solve the mystery until the murderer was revealed. I had a suspicion, but wasn't sure until the author revealed all. This book was very funny as well. The crazy seniors in this book are always a delight. Enjoy!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read, June 14, 1999

Hill Creek seems to have the best of two worlds. The town is close enough to San Francisco to be considered cosmopolitan yet isolated enough to have its own character. The small town is loaded with eccentric citizens. This includes good time girl sixty-years old Kiki Goldstein and her more sedate sister Hannah, who relishes solving murder mysteries. She solved one last year (see THE VERY ELIGIBLE CORPSE) and she now has another opportunity as the guest of honor at the local film festival has been murdered.

Fred Case, a former grade B screen writer and director is making a comeback. He comes to the festival at the urgings of Hannah. When someone poisons Fred, Hannah feels guilty since her eloquent plea brought the victim to the town. Hannah is determined to uncover the identity of the culprit because of a guilty conscience and to prove the townsfolk are innocent. She never stopped to think how much danger she was placing herself and her sister in from a killer who wants his identity to remain secret.

DATE WITH A PERFECT DEAD MAN lives up to its' humorous title because the story line of this novel is a hilarious amateur sleuth tale. The protagonists are extremely funny yet likable even when tension is at its peak. Annie Griffin shows her talent by pulling off the difficult task of putting a mystery inside a mystery and making it seem easy to accomplish. Sub-genre fans will take much pleasure from this series even as they praise the author.

THe second book in this series made me laugh out loud. The author has done a great job of combining a spoof of Marin County/new age California with a solid mystery that keeps you guessing.

Kiki is ditzy but lovable. Her sister Hannah is brains and common sense. Together they put fun into mystery that creates a wonderful diversion.
