Not a model, but not a dog, she poses the idea that any woman who is interested in finding a companion, a lover, a mate can do so. This gives hope and a spirit of adventure. However, being a very successful woman before her husband of 20 years suddenly abandoned her, Dating Goddess (DG) did have an advantage of a basic belief in herself that many women, especially, young, inexperienced women or women who unfortunately believe that their men are THEIR life. Because of the disparity in legal and cultural attitudes about the roles of men and women many women's devotion to their men is not reciprocated in kind and leaves women vulnerable to emotional neglect and even physical abuse. Even with the positive changes in how men (and women) perceive their roles in close relationships, I find many women who believe that to "keep" their man they have to minimize their abilities and work at making their men feel like he's the king and she's his very dependent queen. This not a formula for women to find happiness or be able to have fulfilling life beyond what the man wants to give. Along comes DG who is trying in this book (and her many others) to prove that no woman needs to "settle" for someone other than a man who can meet her needs with the same fervor she is willing to show him. With five daughters I like that. I like that DG is taking women through her experiences and from each they are learning the joys of being herself and standing up for herself as she finds who she is and what she's capable of expecting from both friendly and possible long term relationships with the men she chooses to bring into her life. DG didn't sit home waiting for any call, but selected from the men that contacted her as she recovered from the shock of her husband's surprising abandonment.Read more ›
