Jim's involvement in the technology and history of motocross began in the late 1960's racing CZs, Bultacos, Yamahas, Husqvarna and Kawasaki, and advancing up to AMA Pro National Motocrosser. He worked for Cycle News for 10 years, along with many other top motorcycle publications worldwide from 1969 to 1980 as editor, contributor and photographer. Jim chronicled what he describes as the Golden Age Motocross up through 1983. He often traveled and lived with many of the top factory national teams, helped work on their bikes, and was the only motojournalist allowed to track test and help develop many of the top factory works bikes of the era .
Jim was also involved in marketing and product development for major motorccyle manufacturers and product companies including Husqvarna, Moto-X Fox, Yoshimura and others at the fore front of motocross and roadracing technical development, and was close friends with all the legendary riders during the sports most exciting "Golden Era of Motocross".
In the 1980s Jim's interested shifted to superbikes and roadracing, and his expertese in suspension design and tuning while working at Fox Racing Shox saw him help win AMA Superbike Championships for factory riders Wes Cooley and Eddie Lawson. Jim also competed at local roadrace tracks as an expert Superbike racer himself.
Today Jim lives in Los Angeles and is the owner and creative director at Gianatsis Design Associates, a motorsports based advertising and marketing agency. He photographs and produces the FastDates.com Motorcycle Calendars and Website, and the big Los Angels Calendar Motorcycle Show Weekend held annually in Los Angeles.
