Book Description

A modern Manhattan fairy tale starring . . .

Tracy Connor, a New York City career woman who loves her job and classic movies.

Mike Connor, her estranged husband, a small-town Mayor who loves his wife but doesn’t seem to have enough time to see her.

The handsome stranger, Philip Adams, who lives downstairs from the small sublet Tracy has temporarily moved into. He’s charming, funny, and looks a lot like her very favorite screen icon, Cary Grant.

Dating Cary Grant is a romance all about New York city career woman Tracy Connor struggling with real issues with her real guy, her husband of six years, Mayor Mike Connor of Cukor, Connecticut. Tracy is a smart woman, but some of her problems with relationships are partially caused by her unrealistic expectations that real guys should—and can— behave like matinee idols. Mike’s problems are also caused by the fact that he’s such a great guy and overextends his heart, and his appointment calendar, to every constituent, friend, or stray animal who crosses his path.

Tracy is also being stressed by a TV reality show intent on showcasing Tracy and Mike’s personal life, as well as the imminent takeover of her employer, a small, private television station, by a billionaire with unlimited funds and no taste.
Dating Cary Grant considers just how selfless a man needs to be to meet his wife’s expectations, and just how honest a woman must be with herself about what she’s willing to give, and give-up. And Cary Grant is along to help prove that any woman’s search for ‘Mr. Perfect ‘ might take her to a surprising place to find him.

Praise for Emelle Gamble

DATING CARY GRANT voted BOOK OF THE MONTH by Long and Short Review readers!!!

the author went into the mind and lives of Tracy and Mike in such a way that you could really relate to both of them. I could really understand each of them and how they had gotten to this point in their marriage. It really is a love story, not just a break up story, and It was so well written and had unique plot, that I just couldn't put this book down until I had finished it. I loved it, and I loved the way it ended and for any of you who are looking for a fun, yet serious in a way, romance, this one is for you." Long and Short Reviews

DATING CARY GRANT"Fantasy and reality blend together in this mesmerizing tale from Emelle Gamble. I had a hard time putting it down, even as my eyes were getting dried out and closing from exhaustion...It's not your typical romance, making it a breath of fresh air in a market currently inundated with new adult contemporary romances (which I do love, but need a break once in a while!). I continue to be a fan of this author..." Andi's Book Reviews

"I rarely gush over a book these days. I read at least one, sometimes two books a day and so I can be hard to move. But, this one really got to me... you do not want to miss... Molly Harper."  Clue Review

"Secret Sister is one of those books that leaves you re-thinking everything you once believed...Along with being a very unique and captivating plot...I cannot recommend Secret sister strong enough for those of you that enjoy a book that not only touches your heart but has you tingling in anticipation for whatever comes next." From the Author

A Modern Manhattan fairy tale...
Now think. If you had a choice to spend your evenings the next few weeks with a charming, sexy movie star, or with your husband, whom would you choose?
Well, of course you'd choose your husband. He's your true love. The man you've promised yourself to, committed yourself to, till death do you part.  Right?
But, what if your husband is a workaholic and, despite the fact that his ambitions are to help people lead better lives, he pretty much ignores you most of the time. So what if you decided to move out on your own? Because you need a break from the discussions and disappointment and stuck in the mud, unable to move forward place you find yourselves in. Because you do, after all, want to find a permanent solution to your marital woes.
Would you like a little company? (Did I mention the sexy movie star?) Well, what if the movie star was  -- ta dah!!! --  Cary Grant!
Cary Grant???
Well, I don't mean the real Cary Grant, right? The star of Notorious, and Indiscreet, the hunk in It Takes a Thief and North by Northwest, to name a few of his seventy-two films? I can't mean Mr. uber-Handsome, Mr. Cleft in his chin, Mr. Very, very cool, classy movie star ICON, right? Because, you're certainly thinking, isn't Mr. Grant, well, dead?
Yes, unfortunately he is.
But what if his totally perfect and sexy ghost was currently living in a high-end townhouse in New York City? And he's sweet and tan and mixes great martinis. He likes white dinner jackets and a heart-to-hearts  by the fire where he can lean close and whisper in your ear, "What else can I for you tonight?"
So, I ask again. If you had to pick between spending the next few weeks with the guy who might have been your biggest mistake in life, or a legend who listens when you talk, always understands what you mean (and looks like a Greek god would look if he was an Englishman), who would you choose?
Hubby? Or Cary?

3.0 out of 5 stars Cary Grant... sighhhhhhh... September 5, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
If I'm ever haunted by a ghost I can only hope and pray that it would be Cary Grant!! One can dream right?? That is what intrigued me most about picking up this particular romance... I like to dive into something a little different every now and then.
Even though I love the idea of the story, I can't say that I particularly liked the leading lady or her husband Mike. These two and their self absorbed ways was a bit difficult or me to wrap my head around. Neither one of them wanting to give up their careers led to Tracy moving to New York to live in an old small apartment so she would no longer have to commute. An apartment that has no phone reception and no way to install a landline. But, it does have a handsome resident who goes by the name Phillip... (aka) our resident ghost! Tracy becomes somewhat infatuated with the handsome man who makes her feel like a desirable woman.
This is a romance that revolves heavily around the old movies from the past... it's not a steamy romance but instead plays on our ideas of the kind of man that would be our own... "Mr. Perfect". For Tracy that was Cary Grant...
This was a good solid read... not for all romance fans... but, might appeal mostly to those who spend a lot of time with their head into the old romance icons of the past. I liked it but I didn't love it... but, only because I was having trouble coping with our wishy washy heroine and husband and their constant inability to communicate with each other and make compromises. I was pleased with the ending BUT it was a frustrating journey! But, maybe that was the point.. :)

Love sometimes comes with strings attached. Tracy Connor, a pretty executive, adores her job and old vintage movies. However, she is having marital problems and is depressed. Seeking a new venue to gain perspective in her life, she rents an apartment, without consulting her absentee husband first, in New York City. Her husband is the Mayor of Cukor, Connecticut. They both love their careers and neither wants to compromise. Also, Tracy wishes her husband treated her better, like her favorite movie idols. In addition, a TV show signs on her and Mike to tape a reality show of their lives. Heaven help her! Between her unrealistic expectations and her husband's demanding job schedule, their marriage is strained. Will Tracy and her husband Mike find a way to make amends?

Enter Cary Grant to the rescue! When Tracy meets her new neighbor, Phillip Adams, he eerily reminds her of Cary Grant with his suave, debonair and aristocratic airs. Their friendship blossoms and Tracy learns a lot about herself. Do they become a couple or does Tracy go back to her husband?

DATING CARY GRANT is a tantalizing novel that is charming, funny and very heartfelt. Ms. Gamble presents a lively cast with complex relationships with a love letter to the movies. Will the lady who wants a Cary Grant clone for a husband realize that it isn't possible? Ms. Gamble does a fine job of concocting charming scenarios, with crackling dialogue and a splash of sass and sizzle. The author conveys a clever conundrum on what a woman has to do to make love work in an impractical situation. If you need a smile, DATING CARY GRANT is empowering, mysterious, romantic, magical and funny to boot!

I received this ebook for free from the author for my honest review and I love the story!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Manhattan Story November 14, 2014
By Roxana
Format:Kindle Edition
This story takes place in Manhattan, mostly. It's about Tracy and her husband Mike. They're living a marital crisis because their jobs are too important for them. Tracy works in a small TV station in New York city and Mike is the mayor of Cukor, Connecticut. None of them is willing to sacrifice these ocupations for the other. After a period of tiresome commuting, Tracy decides to rent an appartment. It's a nice old place in Manhattan, and she takes the decission without previously talking to Mike. He's now planning a political future as a Congress candidate, and wants her back to Cukor. But Tracy is not willing to come back: despite the danger of losing her job, she loves her new place and is intrigued by her attractive new neighbour, Philip Adams, which could be no less than... the ghost of Cary Grant!
This book is remarkable for many reasons. Here are two of them. First, the lovely references to classic Hollywood movies and their actors: Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, the town name Cukor, and especially the parallels of the plot with movies of the period, especially "The Philadelphia Story"... This one's really charming. The second is the way the author develops the answer to this question: What are you willing to sacrifice for love? And it's not about great tragic decissions, but about the real ones many people have to face: job aspirations, place where you live... Isn't it real love when you're not ready to give it all up? The conflicts between Tracy and Mike, her conversations with her mother... give answer to this question, as well as the final resolution of this very appealing novel.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Topper has nothing on Tracy! August 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Dating Cary Grant by Emelle Gamble

Dating Cary Grant is a delightful tale mixing the mundane with the mysterious, the otherworldly with the ordinary. Tracy Connor has left her home in Connecticut for a walk up studio apartment in the Turtle Bay section of Manhattan, leaving her husband, Mike, behind in Cukor and to the demands of his office of mayor. Tracy is a producer for a small television station in NYC, works long hours, and absolutely loves the city. She is also a die-hard old movie buff and produces a show that reviews old movies. To her. Cary Grant was always "Mr. Perfect", something she does not see in her husband.

Mike, on the other hand, is a small town fellow who has given up his law position in New York to return to Cukor as the always available mayor. He is more of a Jimmy Stewart than a Cary Grant. The couple spent time with her home on weekends, then her commuting daily, but then, as he succumbed to the needs of the town, Tracy moved back to NYC, first to stay with her friend, Posey, then to seek her own little place.

The madcap encounters of the evening of apartment hunting, the misunderstandings that occur between Tracy and Mike, the undercurrent of a hostile takeover of the tv station, and a relentless reality crew dogging Tracy and Mike, make for a zany adventure complete with otherworldly visitations and the guidance of matinee idols.

I wholeheartedly recommend this entertaining tale!

More About the Author

My books have one thing in common...ordinary women in extraordinary situations. They are all relationship stories about women and the men they love, and the friends they hold dearest. They also all have a touch of something else; a mystery here, a ghost there, an exciting or shocking turn of events. This gives the folks in my imagined world an interesting extra conflict to deal with, and my readers an extra issue to think about.

SECRET SISTER is a woman's fiction novel with a touch of paranormal that sets the plot in motion. It's hard to put down once you start.

DUETS, a prequel novella, and the novel MOLLY HARPER, set three years later, explore the multi-faceted impact family secrets have on the lives of three women and the people who love them. It's heartfelt. and the final chapter is now available! DECEMBER WEDDING is the last chapter about Cruz and Molly, and I hope you enjoy their happy ever after.

DATING CARY GRANT is a modern Manhattan tale of a career woman, her estranged small town mayor hubby, and a certain drop-dead handsome neighbor who just might be the ghost of a certain screen icon. It's fun!

I hope you enjoy all these stories. Please come see me at, follow me on Twitter @EmelleGamble or email me at any time.
