Book Description

After several decades of looking for true love and never finding it, aging model and lingerie designer, Alexa Ranger, has finally given up the search. A couple years ago, she got tired of the game completely and just stopped dating. Now friends and family keep her mostly content, so it’s shocking at 50 yrs old to find herself suddenly wanting a sex life again. It’s even more shocking to be attracted to a much younger man this time. She definitely thinks medically retired Marine, Casey Carter is sexy, but can’t get passed their twelve year age difference to even consider a fling. Not that it matters anyway, anything resembling a normal dating relationship is totally out of the question because Casey is related to and living with her daughter’s boyfriend. The very last thing Alexa needs is yet another talk-show worthy drama in her already complicated life, no matter how amazing Casey’s kisses make her feel.

***
This is a great character study in romance and the first of the series. I can't wait to read them all. I definitely recommend this author and her books to anyone who loves a good romance and likes to laugh. And keep an eye out for more from this wonderful lady. ~ Jesse V. Coffey, National Examiner and On Air Host of Edin Road Radio

From the Author

About the Never Too Late Series

As a life-long romance reader, I have always been drawn to stories containing strong heroes and heroines who know their minds and live their truths. When I got the urge to write about older women and men, I did so with full knowledge some readers might not be interested in reading about mature characters in love. I knew there was a possibility the stories might not sell, but in typical Baby Boomer rebellious fashion, I refused to make the characters younger, because of how strongly I felt.

Why did I do this? Because my youngest child is twenty-six, not sixteen. Because I've had two, yes two, long term relationships where I continue to happily express my sexuality. I personally know people of many ages who are still falling in love as if they were seventeen and new at it. Being older just means you just get to the really profound sex part quicker, and there's so much less fumbling in the dark. Thank heavens for experience.

My Never Too Late series characters are older, successful, mostly stable, and yet on the brink of starting over. Things have happened to them that color their judgments about life. They often hate getting older. Cancer has taken a loved one. Their jobs have ended. Still life goes on somehow. Good thing too, or we would all be in a lot of trouble in this world. I don't dwell on how they handle the trauma. I just show that they survive, and later thrive by finding happiness despite their setbacks. I hope you are inspired to overcome your own and keep on living.

About the Author

After 35 years of doing everything for a living except writing books, Donna McDonald finally published her first romance novel in March of 2011. Ten novels later, she is now living her own “happily ever after” life as a modestly successful author who gives back to the universe by doing her best to keep several Lexington, Kentucky coffee shops in business. McDonald dreams of selling her house and taking to the open road once she figures out how to do so without her children and grandchildren finding out. For the time being, she continues to live contentedly with her permanent fiancée of many years who helps her sneak away from real life as often as he can. She loves him dearly for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Delightful Story April 5, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Alexis and Casey have more obstacles than just their age. She is a notorious former model with a very public and checkered dating history, and Casey is a retired Marine dealing with both career ending injury, and the loss of his wife. Add to the mix the fact that her daughter is dating Casey's nephew and would never approve, and we have the ingredients for a messy relationship.

I enjoyed this book, because the characters weren't stereotypical, very well fleshed out, realistic, and flat out funny. It's wonderful to see older characters fall in love, deal with romance angst and be the sexual beings that they are. It was great to see a woman with greater financial stability and the man strong enough to deal with it.

I devoured this book, and quickly purchased the sequel. I would say this story rivals and is superior to many books I've read that cost much more. Skip your low fat mocha grande, downgrade to a smaller size and spend the rest on this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Record For Me January 4, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book has the distinction of being the one I deleted from my Kindle at the earliest stage: 5%.
I had gotten less than three pages in when the first of what I am assuming were many idiotic, drawn out 'sexual tension' scenes popped up. I absolutely HATE that kind of crap.
As a middle aged woman I would like to find books that offer an entertaining read about the midlife experience. Sadly, this book was off by a million miles. It was simply more 'He immediately pitched a tent in his pants after laying eyes on her once' and 'Her nether regions turned to steamy goop at the mere touch of his hand'. Blech...spare me.
I got to the part where Alexa had dinner with her friends and were talking like tramps. I deleted it immediately.
From the reviews I see I made the right decision as it would appear that Casey turns out to be an emotionally abusive jerk.

4.0 out of 5 stars Couger review May 9, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I loved the character development, Casey is the tough marine and Alexa is the independent model. As an older man, I could identify with Casey's attraction to Alexa and I thought the sex was well integrated as the relationship went from lust to love. Easy read which kept my interest. I usually like historical action stories, but this was a great change of pace for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars More Like 'Hating A Cougar' July 8, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I tried to like this book, I really did. I stuck with it for a long time before I finally realized that I could be reading something I enjoyed! So I put it down and moved on.

This book had the typical Kindle book issues -- missing words, poor formatting making it difficult to grasp who is saying what, etc. -- but overall the author's writing style wasn't bad. It was the lack of plot that killed it for me. I thought at first that the book was going to turn out to be more of a steamy erotic novel, but the sex scenes (when they actually happened) were really lame. The author did a good job of portraying Casey as a neanderthal military chauvinist pig, and Alexa as the strong, sassy businesswoman, but there was no clear reason for the two of them to be attracted to each other except to try to torment each other or to capitalize on an extreme sexual attraction (see above about lame sex scenes).

Ultimately, I could find no point to the novel. If you are reading this review and you are a reader who enjoys books with well-developed characters and a plot that not only moves the story along but makes sense, skip this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Steamy middle-age romance---HOOYAH! June 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I loved this story and the characters but found the numerous proofreading and editing errors distracting. '. . .by magnanimous vote' instead of '. . .by unanimous vote'. UGH!

Dear Author, PLEASE, PLEASE hire me to read for you before publication.

I purchased the two sequels and my reviews are the same.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book sucks August 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is the lamest book I have read to date. The story is so agonizingly slow I didn't even get to the point they had sex, gave up on it 40% through.

1.0 out of 5 stars Gawd aweful. January 1, 2012
By Stacy
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
There are very few books that I never finish, but if I would rather dig my eyes out with plastic spoons than to read more of this drivel. Not only is it poorly written, but the handsome love interest can only be described as a douche.

Being in the military doesn't make men condesending and sexist. Yet, the author's reasoning was that Casey's militery background was the reason for his horrible personality. Instead of anticipating Casey and Alexa finally getting together, I wanted Alexa to run fast and far away. This "book" and I use that term lightly, is anti-romance. Unless your idea of romance is a condesending jerk stalking you at work.

Even though it's free, don't waste your money.

I forced myself to finish the book, because truthfully it is an interesting book. However the verbal abuse, and physical intimidation tactics in this book were too much for me.
