Editorial Reviews

Review

"The Dating Dance" is a how-to book for women dating women...Gayles draws on professional and personal experience to set out a step-by-step process for dating. The psychologist hat is on when Gayles explains the issues that affect dating and mate selection, but she is also a "success coach" and this book is written more from that perspective than that of a therapist....Gayles clearly knows her audience....It's an easy to understand, useful book written by someone who values her readers and her subject. The Dating Dance has lots of practical advice about how to meet women, why to avoid sex early in relationship, and issues to consider for interracial couples, and women with children. It even suggests how to fight. -- Houston Voice, January 8, 1999

Challenging convention at every turn, Joyce Gayles' groundbreaking book, The Dating Dance: A Guide for Women Daing Women, has provided me hours of fun, information, and self-reflection....The book offered exercises that helped me look at how my patterns of selection kept me stuck with the same outcomes. I learned how to be an active participant in dating rather than drifting through life waiting to be chosen. Written with a soulful free spirit, this book 'dances with humor," instructions, real life anecdotes, and tools to provide new approaches and new freedoms in dating. -- KW in Lesbian Connection, July/August 1999

Joyce Gayles, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist and success coach, takes the reader on a journey through the "dilemma of dating." She defines what a date is and asks the reader to confront the reality that "dating is an often difficult and avoided part of the woman-to woman...experience." The Dating Dance creates a new paradigm for dating that encourages readers to explore their definitions and expectations of dating as well as their cultural conditioning....Scared? Don't be. Gayles provides step by step auggestions, affirmations, exercises and realistic examples of lesbian dating issues and ways to resolve them.

Gayles has created a "must read" book for all lesbians who are considering dating, who are currently dating, and even those in relationship. Even the most experienced lesbian can benefit from this insighful book. Let the dance begin! -- LJ in Lesbian Connection, July/Aug 1999

This review is from: The Dating Dance: A Guide for Women Dating Women (Paperback)
The Dating Dance is a thoroughly enjoyable and easy to read book. I liked most that it not only provided clear tips for successful dating, but it focuses on the most important aspect for successful dating--learning to be the best person I can be. There is a step-by-step process for personal growth in preparation for dating.
