Dating Game, January 27, 2008
This review is from: Dating Game (Paperback)
Lainie Ames has returned to her high school home not the success she always envisioned, but a complete failure. She has no job, her home was repossessed, her husband left her with a huge mountain of debt, and she literally has no place else to go. Lainie tries to fool her family into thinking that she is just home to make some decisions about her future because she wants to hide her failure from everyone as long as she can.
Jack Danforth finds Lainie in his office looking for a job at his detective agency. He finds that ironic since he just had met her in a restaurant, in which she stole his credit card to pay for her and her sisters meal. He was looking for her, has done some research on her and knows her circumstances, so he hires her. Jack finds himself drawn to Lainie, but she is only interested in catching the eye of her crush in high school, Blaine Harper.
This is a enjoyable light read. Lainie never felt like she measured up, and most of us can relate to feeling like that at some time in our lives.

Fun light read, July 7, 2011
This review is from: Dating Game (Paperback)
There isn't a lot to summarize here because the plot is very straightforward and extremely predictable, but it's still A LOT of fun to read. There wasn't anything overly special about it, it was practically a giant cliche of every awkward high school girl's dream come true: overweight nerdy girl who's always carried a torch for the most popular guy in high school grows up and snags the biggest catch there is.
Lainie and Jack are a perfect match. She's past the line of poverty poor, he's got more money than he knows what to do with. She's unemployed and has very little skills, he has a position basically doing nothing all day to offer her. She's awkward and slightly hysterical at times, he's laidback and cool as a cucumber. They're great together.
This book has a great array of humorous situations that had me shaking my head and off-beat, funny dialogue that evoked several laughs.
The only thing I didn't much care for was the secondary characters, mainly her sister. But that really wasn't a problem since there weren't a lot of scenes with her in there.
If you're looking for a light read without a lot of thinking involve that will keep you laughing, read this one. It's great.

Fast Read..., January 6, 2009
This review is from: Dating Game (Paperback)
This book didn't have much depth to it. It was a fast read which I am thankful for since the book wasn't great. It was ok, a bit over the top at times; but I think that is most books.
The main character is very materialistic at the beginning and learns to deal with what she has once her life comes crashing down on her and she no longer can hide her true self. I finished this book in a few days, cute at times, gag me at others. But if you're looking for a quick read, try it out. You'll like Jack (the main Man character), he's cute and sweet!
