5.0 out of 5 stars Cutesy idea reveals deeper truths
At first I thought this book was a joke, or just another "Gosh, Colin Firth is hot, let's all drool over him" fan-girl book, but it isn't. The more I read, the more I began to get an idea not only of areas I need to work on in my own life before I get married, but the sorts of things I need to be looking for in a prospective husband. Highly recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't get through it
My mom gave me this book and asked me to read it and give her my opinion of it. Next time I spoke to her I had to tell her, "I'm sorry, I just couldn't get through it." I slogged through the first chapter, but I grew increasingly fed up with Arthur's vapid writing style (to me, the book reads like the diary of a thirteen-year-old girl, and not a particularly clever...

5.0 out of 5 stars This Pop-Culture Princess Packs A Punch!, December 19, 2005
This review is from: Dating Mr. Darcy: The Smart Girl's Guide to Sensible Romance (Paperback)
"Smart girls still believe in love."
"Sarah": from the Hebrew= "Princess"

Dating Mr. Darcy is a lively mix of literature and love. It is easy to see why the words "best-selling author" preface Sarah Arthur's name. Her passion for romance, literature and youth combines in a way that gives Dating Mr. Darcy a heartbeat of its very own. Although she strongly advises the reader to become familiar with Pride and Prejudice before reading Dating Mr. Darcy, Sarah Arthur's fresh look at Austen's nearly 200 year old romance easily stands on its own. Sarah shares insight, tools and tips that challenge the reader to discover her own unfolding romantic adventure.

Dating adventures, impacted by today's pop and media culture, too often end in tragedy. Dating Mr. Darcy 's engaging voice asks the reader to take off the "rose colored glasses" of current cultural "norm" with questions, quizzes and a style that seems to speak out loud. Fanning the flames of sensibility in romance, Sarah turns the heat of truth up on "perceived market value" challenging beliefs about romance, promiscuity, friends and family. The challenges take the resulting thoughts on true love from the frying pan of the readers heart into the re-fining fire of Scripture in Part 5's "art of reflecting".
Sarah's celebration of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice draws a ribbon of love through her look at relationships and ties the timeless and hopelessly romantic heartbeat to God's plan for love. Dating Mr. Darcy delivers a frank and serious look at the challenges of dating and yet is as fun as a girls night sleepover. Sarah engages Austen's lively cast of characters to show how the heartbeat of romance is impacted by personality, character and family issues.

How can any girl resist Dating Mr. Darcy? It truly is "The smart girl's guide to sensible romance". Sure to be a best-selling hit with girls who are looking to find "Mr. Right" - oops, I mean "Mr. Darcy" of course - get this book for the young women in your life.

Dating Mr. Darcy offers spiritual insights along with smart tips as best-selling author Sarah Arthur helps you figure out a guy's Darcy Potential (DP) and refine your Creep Detection System (CDS).

Dating Mr. Darcy travels everywhere my daughter Amy goes; tucked next to chocolate flavored lip gloss in her purse. Now, if she'll just let me read it one more time...or maybe I should get one for my very own. " --G.Gerrie

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for Young women!!, June 16, 2005
This review is from: Dating Mr. Darcy: The Smart Girl's Guide to Sensible Romance (Paperback)
First off, it's a universal truth that Mr. Darcy is the perfect man. This book shows us why, what kind of characteristics make a guy worth dating, and how to listen to those little red flags that make Wickham look so good. This is a very fun read, even if you are married! But I will be keeping it for my daughter to study as she gets older.

Sarah has taken all the elements of Pride and Prejudice that we love, and put them in a heartfelt, wonderfully practical book.

While it's a light, lovely read, there is gabs of good girl info on these pages! Dating Dilemnas take different forms in different times, but our author, Ms. Arthur, weilds wonderful wisdom for winsome wedding waiters and watchers. DON'T get this from the library! Buy two copies - you'll probably know someone to whom you'd love to give this lovely book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smart Girls Will Like This Book, December 31, 2008
By
This review is from: Dating Mr. Darcy: The Smart Girl's Guide to Sensible Romance (Paperback)
It is universally known that a single young woman is secretly in want of a Mr. Darcy. Sarah Arthur is no exception; she herself confesses to having a crush on Jane Austen's tall, dark and handsome hero from "Pride and Prejudice." She devotes an entire book to highlighting Mr. Darcy's best qualities, comparing him with Mr. Wickham, Mr. Collins and with most of the single men out there in the world today. Directed toward teenage, female audiences, this book encourages girls not to settle for the Wickham's of the world but to set their sights higher and wait for their own Mr. Darcy. This book is chalk full of "Pride and Prejudice" trivia, tidbits on Jane Austen's own life and even has a few prayers that Austen composed as devotionals for her own family.
"Dating Mr. Darcy" is a perfect read for any young woman searching for her own Mr. Right/Mr. Darcy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Witty,Fast and Fun., May 25, 2009
This review is from: Dating Mr. Darcy: The Smart Girl's Guide to Sensible Romance (Paperback)
I am not in need of dating advice, but this book seemed fun read. And it was. And I do have to say that for any woman who likes reading, and maybe even if you don't Mr. Darcy is one of the world's perfect men. Oh sure his initial aloofness leaves a lot to be desired, but over all he is a great choice of man. Sarah Arthur does a fine job of interlacing literature, humor, wit and useful tips into her book.

Weather you're a single girl or not you can use this book as something to look at. It really does offer some practical advice to dating and just relationships in general. And if you're a Jane Austen fan there is no doubt that you will enjoy the references to it. Dating Mr. Darcy was a fun and fast read that if you have just a couple of hours you can knock it off and have fun while doing it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dating Mr. Darcy is a Christian Book, November 24, 2006

This review is from: Dating Mr. Darcy: The Smart Girl's Guide to Sensible Romance (Paperback)
I think that anyone reading these reviews shouldn't be set off by some of the lower ratings. It's understandable if you don't like her writing style, but not liking the book because it talks about faith is just silly. She wrote it to be a dating guide for christian teenage girls. That is her target audience (though others can still get something from it), and the idea that the way she presents it is silly and childish, is just ridiculous.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dating Mr. Darcy: Captain Obvious, April 4, 2007
This review is from: Dating Mr. Darcy: The Smart Girl's Guide to Sensible Romance (Paperback)
This was a really great book. The author had a lot to say, but I must say that it was a bit close-minded. She also repeated many obvious things that I already knew about, so... Really, half the book was a waste of money.
She did, though, make a very good parallel of Pride and Prejudice and the way you should date a man.
This book should be for Jr. Highers, not High School girls like me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fantastic!, September 15, 2006
This review is from: Dating Mr. Darcy: The Smart Girl's Guide to Sensible Romance (Paperback)
What a shame that the last reviewer couldn't acknoweldge the gifted and creative writing style of Sarah Arthur. She is one of my all-time favorite writers and I wish this book had been around when I was a teen! There just aren't enough books out there that teach girls how to look honestly at themselves and that dashing "mr. right" that keeps them from seeing straight! Sarah is a master at reaching into the heart of literature and enlightening readers who love books and who seek to apply those lessons learned in their own lives. I cannot wait for the next book!!!
