WOW - DATING THE YOUNGER MAN - I AM GOING FOR IT!,
By Myra Kay "Positive Lady" (Studio City, Ca) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dating the Younger Man: Guide to Every Woman's Sweetest Indulgence (Paperback)
Before reading Cyndi Targosz' book DATING THE YOUNGER MAN, I resisted accepting the advances of younger guys. Now I realize that I was rejecting my true feelings and my desires toward dating younger men, simply because I've been very uncomfortable being seen as a "woman on the prowl". That predatory image of us is being pushed all over TV today and in most of the magazines and other books I've seen on the subject. That's not me. I could never be a predator. So,Dating the Younger Man: Guide to Every Woman's Sweetest Indulgence wanting to avoid the stigma, I just set aside any thoughts of dating younger guys. But reading this book let me know that I don't have to become something I'm not, to get something I know I want, and now know I can have. Dating the Younger Man by Cyndi Targosz, helped me change my outlook to be more open, by being my best self, rather than crafting a different personality. Her collection of real life stories from other women and men and her light hearted fun, sometimes very funny approach to dating, made this a joy to read. She has written a hands-on manual that does more than give psychobabble but provides great tips. I think above all, this author sees and discusses a truthful approach to the feelings we all have as women in today's society, and she shares a path to being ourselves without allowing the negative labeling. I love the playful term "Boy Toy Babe!(BTB)". That is the new confident me - comfortable in my own perfectly imperfect skin. I'm an intelligent divorcee who has maintained my independence and femininity without having to act with a hard edge. I wish more books on the subject were like this one. But until then, this one is Great!

I was looking for some real-life advice on the issues that crop up in older woman/younger man relationships. More than half of the book is about finding and attracting younger men, which is fine if that is what you're trying to do. The advice about self confidence is spot on and very useful, as is the information about starting and keeping a real relationship going with someone younger.
I was not happy with the regular use of the term "Boy Toy". I consider my boyfriend a partner and human being, not a boy or a toy, and thought this was as offensive as the word "cougar". In fact, one of the problems I have is with people assuming our relationship is purely sexual, so the reinforcement of the "Boy Toy" stereotype was very off-putting.

This book helps women to transform traditional thinking and gives you a larger insight about the real consequences to dating younger men. The author is right about double standards in the American society and how both women and men create problems for women who want to open up more options for themselves. I suppose I wanted to know more about how younger men deal with the double standards. I would have enjoyed a chapter interviewing the younger male and getting a better idea on why they really want to be with older women. The book offered a perspective on the prejudices in this dating style. I wanted to know more about the attraction.

Haven't Read the Book, But...,
By Jarvis Tarth (Powell, OH United States) - See all my reviews

I will first admit that I haven't read this book, so please don't flame me. I find it ironic, however, that this is an "acceptable" topic and wonder if there is a double standard at work here. What would you reviewers say if you saw a book that was just the reverse...on the "joys of dating a younger, always sexier woman"? I have dated women younger than me and older than me, and I think sexy isn't an age thing. I suppose I'm just saddened a bit to see women become as shallow as men. :)
