You like rock? Do you like drinking alcohol? Do you think highly of yourself, despite your A**holish characterstics? Buy this album.

This is frankly a momentous work. These are honest, hard-working musicians. they like rock n roll music, so they play it, and they play it well. The last track "Freeze Sucka" is frankly historic in its composition and chaotic tone. "Fink for the man" "At Your Touch" "What Would I Know". . . . . .hell, every song rules. They are tools for rocking, so take them in your fist, and use them. They are strong, heavy songs and they get the job done.

The recording is loose and unsupervised. The energy is genuine, and it is obvious that the Datsuns are inviting you in to play. If you aren't down with their cause, then you're outta luck.

AC/DC ripoff? Led Zeppelin ripoff? Whatever, it sounds genuine and fantastic, and that's all that matters in rock. These fellows aren't trying to top anyone, they're just making the only music they feel right making, and it rules! Get hip, get over it and get down with an honest-to-goodness rock n roll band.

See them live if you doubt their recorded talent, I have and all I can say is WOW.

The Datsuns rip right into their debut album with a lot of ferocity, but at the same time the music has an abandoned glee that makes it the kind of music you want to go drag racing or get into a bar fight to, just for the hell of it.

It's one of those albums I didn't take a shine to outright. I listened to it twice a few months ago when I got it, then recently gave it another go and WOW, this album is simply terrific.

Sure, it's got a 70's retro vibe fueled with some riffs that might make Lars Ullrich proud, but although THE DATSUNS may share a genre with some of its predessessors and contemporaries, it's certainly not deriviative of them or "trying to be" (as one of the truly adolescent reviews on this site suggests) anything but rough and tumble rock and roll

The Datsuns arrive in the nick of time to show of their loud rock noise to change the tides of the music nation. Many of these reviewers don't give the credit that they deserve. With The Datsuns you can definately see some definate influences for old rockers such as Led Zeppelin which isn't a bad thing at all. These guys are doing their own thing in the whole Rock N' Roll genre. These guys are orignal from the stand point they aren't like a few bands where you can hear definate riffs from their prodecessors (ie. Jet). The solos are nothing short of decent quality and have some power that really add to the songs. Though short they are very good. I couldn't choose a favorite song if I tried I just like driving around in my car with this blasting because hey I will probably be the only one playing this band. Overall The Datsuns are a great underplayed and underhyped band that deserve the credit they deserve.

The first time I heard this disc I was sitting in a bar in Texas. A very unlikely place to hear a band from New Zealand, but weirder things have happened. Anyway, their influences are clearly heard but that doesn't take away from their high energy approach to balls-out rock. A lotta songs about women, big surprise, but there's nothing sappy going on here. Goof riffs, good energy, good times. A danged good first album from these guys. They'll certainly be going places.

A buddy of mine turned me on to the Datsuns and while the lyrics they pen have very little substance and the lead singer is fairly average (not too big of a deal when he's the quietest thing in the mix), this album wins anyway because the riffs are great, the energy is high, the guitars are loud and gritty, and these boys manage to play 70's influenced hard rock (cool guitar solo's INCLUDED for once... I'm looking at you, Wolfmother!) without all the pretension, mysticism, and endless jamming that sometimes makes 70's hard rock difficult to listen to.

Nope, just straight up, Motorhead-meets-AC/DC-meets-Kiss hard rock, and they're truly GOOD at doing it. Its catchy, its energetic, it'll make you jump around and bang your head as though you were a smelly longhaired person with a beer in your hand! Viva Datsuns!

I loved this cd. Full on energy from the first song to the last. I can't believe that people that apparently knew of the datsuns enough to buy this cd can think it is ok or bad? They are high energy, garage rock with some KILLER riffs. The media loved them when they first came out. I wonder what happened to the hype from the media? The Datsuns wondered this too apparently, with the second lp named "Outta Sight, Outta Mind". Oh well, I think everything about this album is great and there is not one song on there that is filler to me.

The Datsuns are a remarkable live band. If you are a fan of AC/DC and the like, I highly recommend their live show. Energy is maxed out and they are very tight! Unfortunately, they have yet to harness this explosiveness in the studio. The closest they come on this album is "MF From Hell."

I would've given this cd more stars if the Hellacopters or Fu Manchu or Mudhoney had never existed (or hadn't done it better), but they do a good job of recreating what makes the aforementioned bands so good: namely imitating AC/DC, Blue Cheer and Motorhead, and how could you not love that from a country where the best they could come with was Crowded House/The Split Enz? While I wouldn't put this in my top twenty, it still deserves a regular listen, especially if you're planning on any extended state of intoxication.

sounds like they're trying to the white stripes (who are trying to be Led Zepellin) just comes off amateurish and unauthentic
