3.0 out of 5 stars Successfully enlightens reader of persecution today
As illustrated in the first century Church, persecution has the opposite desired effect; instead of crushing the Church from existence, it merely causes it to spread and grow. Ms. Flinchbaugh quite successfully enlightens the reader to the present, ongoing persecution of the Church in China and its resulting growth.

Even though her novel is a little weak in character...

The story is so easy to get into: in the beginning, we go along with Mei Lin and her father to a house-church meeting. The way it's written had me holding my breath as they crawled or snuck along in the dark, listening for sounds of the Communist authorities who, if they could catch the believers in worship or with a Bible would accuse them of a crime against China and would proceed to beat them and possibly imprison them if the beatings didn't kill them first. Plenty of examples of the brutality against Christians are found in this story, and are realistically told so that the characters' suffering will break your heart. Mei Lin doesn't have an easy road ahead of her, but the suffering she goes through benefits others and it's interesting to see how God provides at the worst of times for her and other believers in the story. The network of believers who risk their lives to free Christians from prisons and protect (and befriend - the supporting characters in this story are strong and exactly that: supportive) them is as important as the pastors and openly practicing Christians; it's neat to see how God uses them all together to accomplish a goal of bringing others to Him and welcoming them into His family.

I couldn't put Daughter of China down. It grabbed me from the first page. Miss Flinchbaugh has used fiction to bring to us the heartbreaking conditions that the Church endures in other countries. She also brings to light the distressing treatment of female children and Chinas one child mandate.
Daughter of China is a wonderful first novel and will by turns cause you to cry and also praise God for what He is doing. So grab a cup of tea, sit back and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars LIFE-CHANGING!, February 25, 2005

THIS IS A WONDERFULLY WRITTEN BOOK. I'M THE MOM OF 4 CHINESE DAUGHTERS AND ALTHOUGH THIS BOOK IS FICTION, IT IS BASED ON THE REALITIES OF REAL LIFE IN CHINA. THE BOOK TOUCHES ON THE ONE CHILD POLICY AND THE ONGOING CHINESE CULTURE THAT STILL REVERES THEIR BOYS OVER GIRLS. THE GOVERNMENT ALSO CONTINUES TO PERSECUTE THE CHRISTIAN BELIEVERS SO THEY MEET IN UNDERGROUND CHURCHS ALL OVER CHINA. THE AUTHOR PULLS IT ALL TOGETHER IN THE END FOR A MARVELOUS, MIRACLE ENDING! MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BOX OF TISSUES HANDY!

5.0 out of 5 stars ...first book I've read that made me want to DO SOMETHING..., December 22, 2002
This review is from: Daughter of China (Daughter of China Series, Book 1) (Paperback)
I'm a fifteen year old from New Jersey who loves to read. I picked up Daughter of China because it looked interesting. After I read it, I discovered it was beyond interesting. My heart was changed into one for compassion and love for the persecuted in China. I prayed about how I could help and in a few days, I discovered a notice in Christianity Today magazine that the organization World Help was committing to providing one million bibles for China. I have been to their website ... and have sent for the free information. I am so eager to help and it is all because of the impact this book had.

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece of faith, September 18, 2003

This review is from: Daughter of China (Daughter of China Series, Book 1) (Paperback)
I have read this book twice. I was fasinated by Mei Lin and her determanation to withstand such pain and torcher for her Lord Jesus. After and while you are reading this book I guarantee that you will have a surge to save the world.
It did, honestly, changed my life. It is fully inspiring.
The auther, C.Hope Flinchbuagh, actually lives in my aria and I recently went to a discussion meeting about her book and she was present. It was a wonderful time and she is an INCREDABLE woman. I was able to meet her in person and get to know her.
I would recommend this book to ANYONE and EVERYONE; Christians and non-Christians alike. This is not only a testimony of true faith, it is also a look at present China and the pursecuted church today.
I believe a sequal is due sometime in the future.
I would also highly reccommend "Bruchko" by Bruce Olson and "Jesus Freaks" one and two by DCTalk and The Voice of the Martyres.

Clearly exposes the reality of suffering in China while portraying the peace and joy that God provides through it all. One of the best Christian novels I've read! You won't be disappointed with this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daughter of China, awesome read! :), June 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I downloaded this book on my Kindle and couldn't put it down. Having two daughters who were adopted from China, I tend to read a lot of books that give me a peak into the culture of China. Being a Christian this book spoke volumes to my spirit. Daughter of China was well written and is a welcomed addition to my library!

5.0 out of 5 stars What every Christian needs to read, March 8, 2008
This review is from: Daughter of China (Daughter of China Series, Book 1) (Paperback)
"Daughter of China" is a very realistic book about the persecution of Christians in China. Throughout this story, the main character, Kwan Mei Lin, goes through prisons and orphanages, seeing and feeling the horrors of each. The reader of this book will go along with her, cry when she cries, see what she seees, and be touched by what touches her. "Daughter of China" is a very powerful book; so don't think you can read it without thinking about it for weeks afterwards. Yet it is a book that every person who calls him/herself a Christian should read. This book will encourage you to live closer to God.
