Book Description

The Bard's Daughter is a 22,000 word prequel to the Gareth and Gwen Medieval Mysteries:

As a bard's daughter, Gwen has spent her life traveling from castle to castle and village to village with her family, following the music. In the winter of 1141, Gwen's family is contracted to provide the entertainment for the coming-of-age celebration of a lord's son. But before the celebration can begin, Gwen's father is found over the body of his friend, with a harp string as the murder weapon and blood on his hands.

With the lord of the castle uninterested in finding the true killer, it is up to Gwen to clear her father's name before her father's music is silenced ... forever.

The Gareth and Gwen Medieval Mysteries include The Bard's Daughter and two novels:  The Good Knight and The Uninvited Guest. Look for the third book in the series, The Fourth Horseman, in June 2013!

About the Author

With two historian parents, Sarah couldn't help but develop an interest in the past. She went on to get more than enough education herself (in anthropology) and began writing fiction when the stories in her head overflowed and demanded she let them out.  While her ancestry is Welsh, she only visited Wales for the first time while in college.  She has been in love with the country, language, and people ever since. She even convinced her husband to give all four of their children Welsh names.

She makes her home in Oregon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Medieval Murder Mystery August 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The Bard's Daughter is a murder mystery set in Wales during the middle ages. The book covers some interesting facets of medieval life and attitude towards crime and punishment. The story is well written and I enjoyed reading it, my only complaint is that the book was too short!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent prequel July 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I actually read the first two books in the series before this prequel short story, but I still really enjoyed The Bard's Daughter. It's a quick, fun read with an engaging mystery, and I loved getting the chance to know more about Gwen's backstory. All in all, an enjoyable chance to spend a little more time in the author's medieval world.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Surprise Is... February 9, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I liked this, not so much for the Welsh early-medieval historical details or even the mystery, but the viewpoint character. Without surrendering to _angst_ she has worries, unrequited wants, and - while smart enough in the end - is genuinely flustered more than a bit of the time. It's a great, good thing to find a female lead who's neither more clever than everyone else nor in control of events... but gets the job done.

Kindle Edition: No typos or other blemishes - a little rare, and appreciated in this (still) early age of e-reading.
