Top notch romantic suspense,
This review is from: The Daughter (Paperback)
When Maggie Slade was fifteen years old her mother was murdered and she was wrongly convicted of the murder. After seven years in jail, Maggie escapes. Life on the run isn't a fun life, moving from one town to another. Never making friends, never falling in love. Until she meets Sean McLeod, one of the detectives who helped put her away.At first burned out cop Sean McLeod doesn't realize who he's just met. He thinks Maggie is a waitress who is trying to worm her way into his brother's life. He's suspicious and starts asking questions, eventually causing Maggie to run again. Finally he realizes who she is and he is determined to find her. After almost seven years on the run Maggie finds herself in Ohio where the man she believes killed her mother is living. Determined to finally stop running and prove her innocence, Maggie goes to see the archbishop's sermon only to run right into Sean McLeod. Sean believes Maggie's innocence and the two fall in love. Only two things can happen, he can turn her in or let her flee again. Sean decides to help Maggie prove her innocence. Jasmine Cresswell, the author of other great romantic suspense novels such as The Disappearance and Secret Sins, proves herself time and time again.

Incredible,
This review is from: The Daughter (Paperback)
This book grabbed from the first page. I really felt Maggie's anguish throughout this whole book. The characters were so well written, I almost forgot I was reading. I was half way into the book before it dawned on me how much of it I had read. The whole story is so believable. Kudos for Jasmine on this excellent and suspenseful story.

Terrific!,

This was my first read by Jasmine Cresswell. The story was wonderful and the characters were great. I felt so bad for Maggie and all that she had endured at such a young age. If I rate a book with 5 stars, it's because I can't put the book down. The story was excellent and suspenseful from beginning to end. That's my kind of book!

A real tear jerker, emotionally moving,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Daughter (Paperback)
The Colorado Springs community recognize Maggie Slade as a troubled teen, who, since her father tragically died, is into drugs and alcohol. In public, Maggie is constantly arguing with her mother, especially when the older Slade started up an affair with someone who wants his identity to remain a secret. However, when her mother is murdered, Maggie is convicted of the crime and sent to jail. Seven years into her sentencing, Maggie escapes into the underground world of those on the lam. Several more years have passed and Maggie still dreams of proving that her mother's secret lover is the culprit. In Florida, she meets former Colorado detective, Sean McLeod, whose attraction to her makes Maggie know it is time to skip town. However, this time fleeing is not so simple as Sean will not let her go. Instead, he decides to help her in her quest to discover the truth even if it means going up against a powerful force, who will do anything, including murder, to keep his tryst secret. THE DAUGHTER is an interesting romantic intrigue filled with two wonderful lead characters and an intriguing support cast. The fast-paced story line is occasionally distracted by flashbacks, but that technique also provides readers with clues to the real culprit's identity. Jasmine Cresswell provides readers with a top rate romantic suspense. Harriet Klausner

Reads like a B movie where the characters continue to make stupid, predictable mistakes and are not particularly complex - or as bright as the author attempts to portray. The gratis love interest seems to serve only to distract from the already thin plot. The author clearly has not been a 15 year old teenage girl for a long time, as she writes from the teen's perspective as though she's about six. If you appreciate complex, clever who-dunnits, this story will disappoint. However, my 80 year old mom thought it was great.

This really should be a 4 1/2. It was a very good book. I especially enjoyed it since I live in the Columbus area. The only reason I didn't give it a five was because I'd figured out the killer as soon as they appeared in the book.I'm on to my next Cresswell book!

I have now read two Cresswell books, this and Colorado Confidential, and I will definitely read her again. She is becoming one of my reliable authors, even though I have never really read any other romance novels, and am not sure I want to. Cresswell is really more romantic suspense, and I doubt that other romance novels are like hers. I didn't give this one five stars because it seemed to take the plot too long to move forward, and it seemed to underachieve a bit, compared to what it might have been. Also, it seemed very woman-centered, with no real description of Mcleod--his looks, etc. (maybe that was intentional). Cresswell does her job so well, however--hooks you right from the first line and never lets you go--that, as a man, I forgive things in her books--the woman-centered view, for example, that would annoy the heck out of me in other writers. I tried to read a woman author after Cresswell, and the way she described one of the female characters--how she jogged everyday, and all this kind of, oh, isn't she an angel type of stuff, made me put the book down in disgust--as if men don't jog (we are much more athletic than women, and women need to get back to appreciating that fact instead of trickily trying to fight it). But I haven't done that with Creswell--not yet.

Jasmine Cresswell comes through again. I've lost track of all the books I've read from her and once again she doesn't disappoint. This book grabs you from the start and doesn't let you go. The fact that the story is so believable is what also makes this book so great. Definitely pick it up, you won't be disappointed.
