5.0 out of 5 stars A Life Changer
Several years ago, struggling with how different I seemed to be from the traditional "Christian" woman, I started a study of all the women in the Bible. What I learned was that there were many different types of women and what marked all of them was godliness, strength and kindness. This review is from: Daughters of the King: Finding Victory Through Your God-Given Personal Style (Paperback)
Several years ago, struggling with how different I seemed to be from the traditional "Christian" woman, I started a study of all the women in the Bible. What I learned was that there were many different types of women and what marked all of them was godliness, strength and kindness. Still, I struggled with the balance between modesty and just looking frumpy as what appealed to me in clothing sometimes seemed extreme to others. So for a few years, I rested in a tomb of taupe and gray, trying very hard to be quiet and good.

Then I read DAUGHTERS OF THE KING.

On each page almost, I had to pause and cry as God affirmed that although He had work to do in me, He'd made me the way I am for a reason. It takes all types of women to do the will of God. Unfortunately, sometimes we persecute each other because we are not secure in our own identity. This book does speak about fashion, but that's not all it's about. It's about discovering who you are...and remembering whose you are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jaunty Esprit, That's Me, May 10, 2005
This review is from: Daughters of the King: Finding Victory Through Your God-Given Personal Style (Paperback)
A few years ago I met Dr. Hayes by divine appointment on the internet. The Lord prompted me to call her, it took 2 weeks to get up the nerve to do so, when I did, we talked for 4 hours straight. It was awesome. She sent me her book, I read it in two days. I called a board meeting of my ministry SisterCare, International and I declared that it was mandatory reading for every member. My simple testimony is, I finally found a book that speaks to my heart about who I am authentically. It helped me to accept myself in ways that I had never considered and I have been a more confident and empowered woman since I read Daughters of the King. Yes, I am Jaunty Esprit! When I shared the book with as many as thirty other First Ladies in our community, they all called within days crying, thanking me over and over again for giving them such a precious affirming gift. They have since asked Dr. Hayes to come and minister to their entire congregations. Even the men have testified of how their wives have come alive since reading Daughters of the King. I've given away cases of her book for Christmas presents and after three years, it's still mandatory reading for SisterCare. For me and everyone I've shared, its been spiritually transforming and that's why God gave Dr. Hayes the wisdom, insight, wit and passion to write such a liberating book for women of all fashion styles and personality types. God fearfully and wonderfully made us and that's the most beautiful message that the book conveys. It's classic, healing and a gift to everywoman.

4.0 out of 5 stars What an interesting and fun book!, June 24, 2005
By
This review is from: Daughters of the King: Finding Victory Through Your God-Given Personal Style (Paperback)
An incredibly interesting and wildly fun - and I must admit truly accurate book - found me recently. It is Gail M. Hayes' book, Daughters of the King.

Hayes believes that every woman has her own unique sense of style that is not only how she dresses but also how she does things (like holding an eating utensil or how she thinks). It is her very essence. It is simply who women are in the world and as children of God.

Hayes presents a simple twelve-question image indicator, and from the answers can tell women what type they are; Jaunty Esprit, Harmonic Refined, Elegant Flamboyant, Creative Poetic, Chantilly Graceful or Sensual Exotic. Now you might scoff or even laugh at the thought that a short questionnaire can pinpoint style, but I must confess that when I took the test, it was so accurate it shocked me. And no, I'm not going to share my style. I'd like to quietly savor it for awhile before proclaiming it to everyone.

Once you have determined your style, Hayes discusses in depth the beauty of your unique style, the inner you, tells a biblical story, discuses your style and family life, your strengths in the body of Christ, working style, good career choices, color and clothing and jewelry choices, as well as make up and hair styles.

I absolutely love this book because it's fun, it explains my style personally and as a child of God. And because it is, as I said before, so accurate! Women, buy this book, share it with your daughter, friends and anyone who will listen. I see style parties cropping up all over the country. "What fun!"

5.0 out of 5 stars A great ministry tool, May 17, 2005
This review is from: Daughters of the King: Finding Victory Through Your God-Given Personal Style (Paperback)
I also met Gail Hayes on the Internet a few years back when I was a fledgling Chaplain at a Correctional Facility for women. I was looking for scripturally sound reading material for the Chaplain's Library. Gail graciously sent me several copies at no charge! The book was a tremendous blessing to everyone who read it, inmates and staff alike. For some of the inmates it was the first time they read anything that validated their own style. Some learned that God created them the way they are and to embrace that. I wish there were more books like this available for Prison Ministry.

This review is from: Daughters of the King: Finding Victory Through Your God-Given Personal Style (Paperback)
This book is a "one of it's kind" books which describes the types of women found in the Black Church and what has prevented these sisters from embracing each other's differences. It is insightful and delightfully done. When used in connection with a seminar by author, Gail M. Hayes, one can't help but come away enlightened and edified. Gail M. Hayes is an experience herself. You must meet her; she will be a friend for life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Listen to Pseudo-Intellectual Reviewers, May 8, 2005
This review is from: Daughters of the King: Finding Victory Through Your God-Given Personal Style (Paperback)
Despite the "progressive" and "pseudo-intellectual" negative reviews of Publishers Weekly, I found this book on spirituality and style uplifting and validating. If the whole of the natural world can be categorized into groups and sub-groups, why not humans?! This is a fun read and will help "real women" everywhere feel like it's okay to be themselves--and to be loved just as they are, in their own style. You will enjoy and appreciate not only Gail King's style book, but her championship attitude toward all women. Buy and read! You'll be glad you did! Brooke Ball (Charlotte, NC)

5.0 out of 5 stars Daughters of the King, May 8, 2005
This review is from: Daughters of the King: Finding Victory Through Your God-Given Personal Style (Paperback)
Too often as women in the church, we judge other women by their personal style. We make assumptions about their walk with the Lord based upon outward appearances. Dr. Hayes' book gives every woman "permission" to be the beautiful spirit that she is, without apology. I'm proud to know I'm a creative poetic, and wear that label as a source of pride! I now have a legitimate reason for not being able to conform to "church suits with matching hats!" LOL!! Great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Freedom from the Grave Clothes, June 21, 2005
This review is from: Daughters of the King: Finding Victory Through Your God-Given Personal Style (Paperback)
The information in this book, ushered me into a place of freedom and dropping a layer of grave clothes to be and dress in a way, that is me! I had always been teased about how I dressed and began to dress the way everyone had expected me to--but I wasn't comfortable. Even when other's would "compliment" me on the style and choice of clothing, it caused me to feel badly inside. The material in this book was head on for me and has freed me to be myself and take my rightful place as heiress to a King. I have since spoken on this various topic, shared my testimony and promoted the sale of dozens of these books. I loved it! And everyone I have introduced it to, has shared similar stories of how it is changing their lives. God Bless Gail Hayes for her faithfulness to share and encourage women to be who they were created to be.
