"Daughters of the Moon, Sisters of the Sun" is the most enlightening book I have ever read into the hearts and souls of young girls and young women. It confirms every fear and every joy I ever had as a young girl. I only wish this book and the Focus Group inwhich it was born from were around when I was growing up. Even today--in my 30's--it spoke to me and made me feel I can make a difference in the upbringing of my young niece. I highly reccommend this book to everyone who ever wanted to make a difference in the lives of young women--and, also,young men.

This book is a "lessons learned" compilation from young women and "well-known" women. It is a confirmation of experiences that all of us may or may not have had that shows that we are not alone out there. I wish that this book would have been out there for me when I was a teenager, so much that I ended up purchasing 5 extra copies, (one) to set aside for my 7 year old daughter. This is a book that "our" sons and fathers should read, to not only understand us better, but to better understand themselves. This book provides an empowerment for all to be open to reaching up and running with life. It is a salve in healing wounds and assisting us in our evolution as human and spiritual beings.

Daughters of the Moon, Sisters of the Sun is one of the most exciting and promising projects I am aware of...It offers girls the kind of experience which is truly transformative at a time when many girls are in danger of muting their voices, diminishing themselves, and thus losing their full connection to the world. This book captured my interest as a developmental psychologist concerned with psychological growth during adolescence. The stories of the young women and the advice and counsel of the famous women mentors (from Maya Angelou to the Indigo Girls and Carol Gilligan, to name a few) made the book fascinating to read and thought provoking. The conceptual framework of the book, as well as it's layout and style, made it all the more fun for me. I recommend it very highly.

This is a very important project that can make an enormous difference not only in the lives of the girls who directly participate in its focus groups, but in the lives of thousands of other girls through the book. Riane Eisler

I wanted to send a gift to a 12 yr. old girl to mark the beginning of menstruation and I choose this book after reading several reviews. I was horrified when her parents called to tell me about some of the testimonies from the later chapters. Everthing from rape, to 3-way sex, to teenage prostitution is discussed vividly. This book is intended for a much older audience, particularly survivirs of abuse.

I cannot begin to express my fondness for this book. It is truely excellent. I was given the book for my 16th birthday. It has opened my eyes to what I really am and has taught me to love myself for who I am. The Daughter/Sisters project, the inspiration begin the book, is an excellent program. Infact, the author of the book lives in my home town. I was able to meet her, and since knowing her, I have become best friends with her daughter, one of the young women to tell her story in the book. It is a pleasure to know the minds behind such a wonderful book. I highly recommend it for those of you in search of you identity.

I just finished reading Daughters of the moon, Sisters of the Sun and I'm amazed at how connected I feel to the stories in this book. I feel like each of these stories spoke a little bit about my life and what I've going through as a man...This book is a bridge. I feel like I've just walked over some great crevice in the earth, only the land I've reached is different, there's more people, more faces, more love...I hope men can open themselves enough to read this book and begin to live their lives again...This book gives me hope for the future, hope for the earth, the trees, the moon and sun. Through the pain and tears that is this book, there is great hope and a great spirit of survival. Men need to read and examine these scars so that they can understand them. I hope that men do not close up this book, there is honesty in it's pages, for we men cannot count on women to bring us together as they are doing for themselves. We may follow the same path, but the brambles we encounter we have to clear ourselves.

As a woman in my late forties, Daughters of the Moon, Sisters of the Sun has fully engrossed and intrigued me. Not only am I called back to re-experience my own journey as a teen woman, but I am also deeply drawn into the many stories offered by young women making the passage right now. This book has called me into the universality of this journey as well as the diverse strands and threads of individual journeys. While this book has at times been upsetting to me because of the graphic honesty of each woman's story, it has also inspired me as I sense the courage, strength and wisdom already alive in these young women. From reading this book, I am moved to want to come to know and be with young women as the authors have done in the focus-group upon which this book is based.

This book is a great representation of the problems and triumphs of females. I can't say that I identified with all the stories but I found them to be a learning experience. The authors of this book and many of the girls who told their stories are neighbors of mine, and it was a little strange to read about people I know like that. But over all it was excellent!
