First off its great to see the magic marker label going strong and once again releasing high quality music. The Owls debut full length "Daughters and Suns" is a step up from their ep released a few years ago. The production this time does all the vocalists justice. The band has taken some of the playful nonsense and twee aspects out of their overall sound. The vocals and and harmonies sound fuller, richer, and more crisp. "Daughters and Suns" allows the listener to think back to lazy summer vacation days when you were too young to drive or get a job. The lyrics are often chipper, but surpisingly enough can become dark and serious at times. "Apocalypse" and "bury your mind" both have eerie themes. Recommended if you like: Essex Green, Ladybug Transitor, or p:ano

I bought this CD W/DVD because I now own the vintage wooden boat that was used in the making of the DVD "Way On". A major restoration of that vintage boat has just begun. The gentleman I bought the boat from told me it had been used in a music video by "The Owls". I found the video on YouTube and the CD/DVD on Amazon with a google search. The music is good though not something I would normally go looking for. The CD audio has a skip and some static at the beginning of the second song but not a big deal to me. The Owls are very good but the type and style of music is OK but not my style. I do like the song "Way On" which is on the DVD due in part to the video presentation.

I'm not sure that I actually know what the songs are actually about, but it's great fun to listen to and sing along with. Quiet and super melodic. Just wonderful.
