Book Description

August 10, 2006
A dad shares his heart and wisdom with his three daughters regarding a life-changing decision: marriage. In Letters to My Daughters: A Dad's Thoughts on a Most Important Decision - Marriage, Paul Friesen, a marriage counselor, pastor, and relationship expert, pens 52 letters from a dad's loving heart to help his three daughters and any other young person, male or female, think more clearly about this all-important decision.

Rebecca Manley Pippert, author of Out of the Salt Shaker, has said, "This book has something for everyone! It offers tremendous wisdom for teens and collegiates [or anyone for that matter] to consider before they choose a spouse. It is also a wonderful book for men who want to be better fathers. And it reveals, perhaps without intending to, what God desires a family to really be. I think Friesen carries forward the great tradition of the renowned author, Walter Trobisch. Letters to My Daughters is full of practical wisdom, touching stories, humor, and a refreshing look at what godly living is all about."

About the Author

Paul Friesen has been married for 30 years to his wife, Virginia, and they are the parents of three girls, ages 21 to 26. Paul and Virginia are the founders of Home Improvement Ministries (H.I.M.), a non-profit organization dedicated to equipping individuals and churches to better encourage marriages and families in living out God's design for healthy relationships.

Paul writes, teaches, and counsels. He and Virginia regularly speak together at marriage, men's, and women's conferences across the country, as well as at family and parenting seminars. They have an ongoing ministry with several professional athletic teams, a teaching partnership with Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and the Ockenga Institute, and direct family camps each summer with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at Campus by the Sea on Catalina Island.

Paul and Virginia are (along with four others) co-authors of the book Restoring the Fallen, published by InterVarsity Press.

Paul has a Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Master's degree in Family Ministry, both from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Before founding Home Improvement Ministries in 2003, he was on staff at Grace Chapel in Lexington, Massachusetts, where he served for nine years as the Director of Men's and Family Ministries.

Paul and Virginia's greatest joy in life is knowing that their children are walking in the truth.

This review is from: Letters to My Daughters (A Dad's Thoughts on a Most Important Decision Marriage) (Paperback)
For any woman in a relationship (or hoping to be) who wants to do things the right way - in God's will. This is a collection of encouraging letters from a loving, concerned father who wants to see his three daughters not "settle" for anything less than the man God has prepared for them. With the typical outlook on marriage and relationships these days being such a negative, this book shines light on the fact that it is possible to have a good, solid marriage.

This review is from: Letters to My Daughters (A Dad's Thoughts on a Most Important Decision Marriage) (Paperback)
I first read this about three years ago, when my daughter was 12 she is fifteen now and it has been tremendously helpful to reread this book. He stands up as a Christian male and writes very directly about topics most churches, pastors and Christians in America tiptoe around. It is great for parents of males and females. I would recommend it to all Christian families as a guidepost for raising their kids.
