5.0 out of 5 stars Authentic history of one of our truly great airplanes ., December 11, 1998

This review is from: The Dauntless Dive Bomber of World War Two (Hardcover)
This book reveals the greatness of this plane that was developed before the war and the amazing feats that was accomplished with it and the men who flew them.Often used successfully as a fighter against the Japanese Air Force. This plane built by Douglas Aviation Co along with the Grumman F4F Wild cat kept us in the battle the 1st year of the war until more modern planes were produced, Having flown many hours of patroling as a crew member in this plane I can vouch for it's authenticity. An excellent and well written book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Right, September 11, 2005

This review is from: The Dauntless Dive Bomber of World War Two (Hardcover)
This book does not attempt to astound the reader with lots of hyperbole. Instead it takes a simple, down to earth approach to to the history of an airplane, and it's pilots who did astounding things. The book is not dry, nor is it filled with exaggeration: it is not too hot, or too cold. "The Dauntless Dive Bomber of World War II" is just right.

5.0 out of 5 stars First Strike Is Deadly, March 10, 2006
This review is from: The Dauntless Dive Bomber of World War Two (Hardcover)
This book is THE be all/end all source for the Dauntless. Mr. Tillman has once again put together an outstanding historical tribute to this fascinating war machine and the crews that operated her. I cannot express enough how important this book is on a very important player in the history of aviation and one's bravery.

5.0 out of 5 stars The mainstay of the Navy's bombing/scouting squadrons, May 9, 2009

Nobody goes beyond the nuts & bolts of an aircraft like Barrett Tillman. Considered obsolete by 1943, the Dauntless was nonetheless loved by those who flew it, and outperformed its successor, the SB2C Helldiver even as the "Son of a b**** 2nd class" was pushing it aside. Tillman takes you from development to deployment, putting the reader in the cockpit. This one is a winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Dauntless Dive Bomber of World War Two, August 19, 2009
Outstanding documentation of the aircraft that my Dad flew. He was a member of the Cactus Airforce on Guadualcanal, and earned two Air Medals for his two tours there. He left the Marine Corps as a Captain, and never used his expertise, as an aviator, after the War. Most of the models he flew were of the C and D according to his Naval Flight Log. It is one of my most valued possesions since his passing in 2,005. Semper Fi.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Book, August 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The book's condition was exactly as described. A very nice addition to my collection. I was however unaware that shipping by ground involved sending it via-Siberia. The package took an excessivly long time to arrive. Considering I oredered other products from equally far distances and had those other products arrive long before this book did, I was a bit un-impressed. The other products we also shipped by "standard shipping" by the way.
