5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have For Every BMX'er!, September 14, 2000

This review is from: Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX (Video Game)
Growing up during the first rise of BMX freestyle, watching Eddie Fiola, Ron Wilkerson, and R.L. Osborne get huge air in the well-thumbed pages of BMX Action magazine, I dreamed of being able to do the same thing in real life, or at least on my Commodore 64. This game is a long-delayed dream come true, combining the incredible moves of today's BMX stars with the ability to combine and modify them on the fly - a videogame first that opens up a virtually limitless array of tricks to perform. The levels are wide-open and quite large, with secret areas and interactive obstacles. The controls are simple to pick up, but mastering the harder tricks takes time. Graphics are about the best I've seen on PlayStation, with great lighting and shadows throughout the worlds and wonderful detail on the textures. The soundtrack is spectacular, and really captures the spirit of today's BMX'ers. The rewards you earn as you progress through the game are excellent - new bikes, new outfits, secret characters, etc., I already know I'm not going to be putting this one down for a long time! And the crashes make you actually cringe in front of the screen - absolutely spectacular!

Comparisons to Tony Hawk's game are inevitable, but I found DMFBMX to be quite a bit deeper and more flexible, especially with regards to trick performance. (I was never into skating that much anyway). This game lets me relive and exceed the BMX dreams of my youth, and for that, 40 bucks is definitely a bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm hopelessly addicted, September 16, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX (Video Game)
I played Hawk like mad, but since I got this game on Thurday, I haven't been able to put the controller down except to sleep and eat. It's that good. IMHO, even better than Hawk--and that's saying a lot. Mirra BMX has this Modifier trick system that lets you combine tricks on the fly. So for example, you can turn a Superman into a Superman Seatgrab or Superman One-Hander. There's 10 pro riders in the game, including Mirra, who's the reigning champ of BMX today. The sound track was awesome too--Sublime, Rancid, Social Distortion, Cypress Hill--the list goes on. Last but not least, the graphics rocked. The animations were silky smooth, and I still haven't seen nearly all of the 1,300 tricks you can do. I'm still playing the ProQuest mode, which lets you compete as a rider and earn real life sponsors like No Fear and Adidas and Fox, and then upgrade your bikes (all real bikes in the game, btw). I could go on and on here, but I gotta get back to playing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mirra's awesome, October 13, 2000
This review is from: Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX (Video Game)
This game has turned out to be much more awesome than I expected. It was real easy to ride and do tricks. I like how the buttons are set up. The challenges are just hard enough to keep you working on them, but not so hard that you would completely give up. The levels are fun to play, especially when you can start doing superman's, flairs, and grinds. This is truly fun and addictive game!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST GET FOR ANY GAMER WHOS NORMAL!!!!, September 18, 2000
This review is from: Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX (Video Game)
This was the best game I have ever played. The graphics are awesome. The different levels of multiplayer are the best, like Gnarliest Crash, Sickest Trick, and a bunch more. Since I bought this game two days ago, I have played it constantly and it is awesome. The gameplay rocks and the amount of tricks to perfume are endless. The game is very addicting. If you like gaming and you have any common sense. Then this game is the best game you will ever play!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best game of it's kind, December 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX (Video Game)
When I first saw this game I thought it was exactly like Tony Hawk, except with bikes. I was wrong. The first thing you'll notice is the graphics. They are very clear and the riders look realistic. All the levels are full of places to pull tricks. The tricks look very realistic, and you can combine different tricks to get combo points. There are over 1,000 tricks in the game! The controls are very easy to learn. You be pulling backflips in 10 minutes! There are many modes in this game, including Pro Quest. In this mode you pick a rider and try to complete objectives such as grind 50 feet, pull a 900 and get on to the roof of a house! The more objectives you complete the more bikes and sponsors you get. All the bikes are from real companies such as: dk, S&M, Haro and others. All the sounds are clear and realistic. It's soundtrack features Cypress Hill, Rancid, Pennywise, Sublime and 6 other top bands. It has all the top BMX riders like: Dave Mirra, Ryan Nyquist, Mike Laird, Tim Mirra Joey Garcia and 5 others. I am glad I made this purchase. Buy this game if you liked Tony Hawk, or like BMX.

4.0 out of 5 stars Could be the sleeper of the year!, September 2, 2000

I've been playing thru the production demo and I must say it is very addicting, just like Tony Hawk. Now, Freestyle BMX and Street Skating share a lot of similar tricks and styles so it may feel like your playing Tony Hawk with bikes. Well, I must say its not! BMX is a very cool sport and being able to play a game with a very quality engine and fun atmosphere is very enjoyable. A few problems exist with the physics, like impossible landings and some weird hit detection but its still a very solid title.

There is one other true BMX game coming out ... , Matt Hoffman's BMX which uses the Tony Hawk engine. Should make for an interesting battle between the two for #1.

This game is the BOMB! If you thought Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was cool, you will love this game! It is very addicting. The graphics are awesome, and the tricks are very easy to perform. The sound track is very cool with Cypress Hill, Sublime.....etc. Every time you win an event, you get new sponsers, bikes, clothing, and even new characters including the Slim Jim guy! There are also more option's in 2 player mode, including B-M-X which is a version of H-O-R-S-E. There are also events such as, highest jump, longest jump, best trick, best trick combo, and best wreck! There are also hidden cheats like night vision mode, worp speed mode, and ghost rider mode. On a scale of 1 to five, (five being the highest) I would rate this game 1,000,000!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, October 22, 2000

Tony Hawks Pro Skater was definitly a landmark game for skateboarding, well, here is your landmark game for BMX and freestyle biking. I was pretty skeptic of BMX games at first because my friend has one for the computer and it was the worst game I had ever seen. But when I first popped this into the Playstation, I immediatley new that this was way better. The music is awesome, and in my opinion better than Tony Hawks Pro Skater. The crashes are realistic and when you watch your re-play, its so realistic that it looks like your watching a competition on TV. The controls are very simple. If you liked Tony Hawks Pro Skater, or if you bike or skate in real life you will love this game. Definitly a must-get.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Game, May 24, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX (Video Game)
What is there to say about Dave Mirra? Well the graphics look horrible, but that is in comparison to PS2 games. The game slows down A LOT, the animation practically freezes. Every riders bike has a Haro sprocket. Amazing soundtrack with Sublime, Cypress Hill, and Deftones. Levels are fun. Controls are top-notch. There is a HUMONGOUS variety of tricks. This achieved by being able to combine up to four tricks into one. For example, instead of doing a tabletop to backflip to one hander to one footer, by pressing up, down, square and then quickly pressing left, right, circle you will backlip while doing a tabletop while only having one foot and one hand on the bike! It might sound complicated, but it is not. This allows for over 1,000 different tricks, not counting combos! There are alot of goals, many of which are challenging, and competitions are more abundant and a lot better than Tony Hawk. The riders are best of the best. Buy this game, you won't be disapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars OFF THE HOOK, September 30, 2000
This review is from: Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX (Video Game)
This is the killer app of extreme games. The best yet, and that includes Hawk 2. I just landed my first triple backflip, which is one of Mirra's secret tricks. There are thousands of combos you can do. All the aerial stunts, grinds, wall taps, fast plants, stalls, and manuals you can do are just crazy fun. The graphics are some of the best ever on the PlayStation even though gameplay is what I care about most. To say I recommend this game is the understatement of the year.
