Designed by Dave Smith, founder of Sequential Circuits and long-time music technology innovator, the 4-voice polyphonic Poly Evolver combines some of his best creations into slick-looking 61-key keyboard. Start with the oscillators: two real analog oscillators featuring Sawtooth, Triangle, Saw-Triangle, and Pulse meet two digital wavetable generators with a choice of 96 waveforms (like the Prophet VS). You can hard sync the analog oscillators (like Prophet 5) and link the digital ones with either FM or Ring Mod for a wide pallette of sounds. And there's no skimping on filters either: real voltage-controlled analog lowpass filters - not digital recreations. 4-pole/2-pole switchable, fully resonant (in 4-pole mode). You also get an audio input that can run through the effects and filter to your heart's content. There's more - a 16-step sequencer with MIDI sync, onboard distortion and delay, syncable LFO's... let your sound Evolve! Features: Four oscillators in total: two analog, two digital Analog Oscillator waveshape are Sawtooth, Triangle, Saw-Triangle, and Pulse (with voltage-controlled analog Pulse-Width modulation) Digital Oscillators select from 96 wavetables from the Prophet-VS (128 x 12 bits), and 32 user-loadable (via MIDI) Wavetables (128 x 16 bits). The PEK has amazingly bright sounds as well as lush pads and bone crunching base and it's relatively it's easy to use and program. The sound has a ton of Thrust and Power. This is nothing like VA synths or Soft synths... even a novice can tell the sound is fantastic compared to other options. I can't believe more people aren't buying these. The big compliant is the 4 voices (though expandable to 20).... the sounds are so fat and have so much energy that 1 or 2 voices are enough in many cases. You have to buy and play it for while to understand it's real potential. Well worth the investment. Grab one for your arsenal ASAP!!!! Stores make about $300 per unit so you can negotiate them down about $200.00. There is no way on earth that you will ever regret buying this instrument. If the Access Virus TI (I have one) is like a German sport cars, then the Dave Smith Poly Evolver is like a Dodge Viper or Corvette. Just vicious...

One evening using this instrument was enough to convince me that I made the right decision. If you find that you are attracted to Dave Smith Instruments, I would recommend obtaining one directly. You will probably save yourself in the long run.

For example, my instrument survived obvious and egregious rough handling during shipping, but it works just fine. The Evolver is an example of thoughtful engineering, as well as a great instrument. It fulfills all the capacities of many lesser synths. Take my advice. Add this to your rig now instead of later.
