5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Family Values taught for children.
As I child I loved Davey and Goliath. I have to admit I still do at 52. This series teaches good manners, kindness, telling the truth, how to treat others and be mindful of their feelings. Not to take what isn't yours, obedience to parents, how cheating is wrong. All the things that any god parent would want for themselves.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very dissappointing collection.....
While some of the series was of the earlier type, alot of it was the later series, and,in my opinion, not as good.
The story lines of the later series weren't as good, and, some of the music sounded too rock 'n rollish.
While it was interesting to see all of the programs, I just feel dissappointed that not many of the earlier stories are in the collection...

It doesn't preach or talk about any certian churches. It is not talking about salvation and hell..nothing like that. It is produced by the Evangelical Lutheran Church but you hear nothing of that in the programs.

I highly recommend this to every parent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Davey & Goliath, October 24, 2009

I ran across Davey & Goliath and remembered watching them as a child. I wondered how my own children would like them and if the show would stand the test of time as I haven't seen it probably since a child. I am quite happy to say the show did pass both tests. I sat down with my children, 11, 8, 4 and my grandson 4, to watch volume 1. Davey & Goliath kept their attention. The topics covered by the shows are just as current and pertinent today as it was back then. I found the wit and humor used in the show very good. My wife did criticize some of the claymation saying she couldn't tell for sure what some of the background things were supposed to be. So state of the art it may not be but as I told her that is not why people will by Davey & Goliath. The skits are good and teach children a lesson without them realizing they are being taught. I like the fact that the show portrays Davey in a nuclear family with a mother & father, I like Davey & Goliath's interaction with and in the community, I like that it shows the children outside playing, flying kites etc. The show teaches good basic principles of life I can't imagine any parent not wanting their child to pick up on, honesty, respect, being helpful, diversity, for examples. Speaking to diversity for a moment, Davey and his family are White but there are people of color in the show, friends and people in the community. Kids today definitely have better TV viewing choices than I did as a child with more educational cartoons and Discovery channels and the like but Davey & Goliath bring other aspects of life into the mix. They are able to entertain your child while conveying to them holsom principles. So don't hesitate to pick up these classic jewels for yourself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Davey and Goliath, February 12, 2009
This review is from: Davey and Goliath (4 pack) Volume 1-4 (DVD)
Since I was familiar with what the product was, I was not surprised. Some find it a little dated, but the content is cleaver in a way to reach elementary age students in Sunday School.

Our 3 year old and 22 month old love the Davey and Goliath videos. It is super neat to see our daughter understand the themes it is conveying and attempt to put them in to daily practice. Highly recommend for entertainment value and ethics teaching. I like the spiritual themes bc 85% of them aren't your standard christian cliche jesus loves you stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, Non-Violent, Christian-Centered Cartoons That Kids Enjoy, January 20, 2009
This review is from: Davey and Goliath (4 pack) Volume 1-4 (DVD)
A friend of mine gave me this collection to my four year old. I must admit that I was just as interested in watching these cartoons as my son, in that I grew up on "Davey and Goliath" and I hadn't seen them in years (I don't know why the networks don't show D&G on TV anymore.)

In any case, these cartoons are better than I remember. My four year old loves the cartoons. They are entertaining and they contain good, wholesome, non-violent stories; which also touch upon Christian values such as forgiveness and telling the truth.

These cartoons were produced by the Lutheran Church, but they can accomidate any Protestant denomination, and even (I imagine) the Roman Catholics. My wife and I are Methodist, but the friend who gave me this collection is Catholic and he said that he bought a set for his own kids. I also grew up in a heavily Catholic neighborhood, and all my friends who were Catholic used to watch D&G as well. It's just good clean fun for family members of all ages. It might also provide an oppurtunity to discuss religious and moral values with children at home or in Sunday school or CCD classes.

The only issue I have is as follows: I vaguely remember an Easter episode that is not included in this set. There is a Christmas, New Year and Halloween episode, but no Easter special. Other than that: good memories that I can appreciate all over again with my little boy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Children's Show with Timeless Moral Themes!, January 18, 2011
By
Healthy By Nature (Wadsworth/Sharon, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Davey and Goliath (4 pack) Volume 1-4 (DVD)
This is safe viewing for even the youngest toddlers and preschoolers, and is an exceptionally well-written children's collection, packed with timeless moral themes. There are many wonderful "takeaways" to be gleaned from the adventures of Davey and his big, goofy dog, Goliath -- humor, love, learning, music, friendship, simple examples of God's hand in our everyday life, honor, philanthropy, integrity, stewardship, servitude, and even some real-life lessons in the School of Hard Knocks.

I am no expert, but I believe this is what was commonly referred to as Claymation. Despite having originated in the 1960s, these renderings are of decent quality and have been very well received by my children. We have the set of four DVDs and enjoy watching them over and over again. In total among the four DVDs, there are (22) 15-minute episodes, and (4) 30-minute specials.

Highly recommended; watch them together and be blessed!

These Davey and Goliath stories are entertaining for children, while teaching them important lessons of life. I found this 4 pack a good deal, instead of buying the volumes individually.

I grew up on Davey and Goliath - their charm and stories sweet and moral. And enjoyable. I bought the set for my 6 children who, through the years, have also enjoyed and come to appreciate this different kind of film making.

5.0 out of 5 stars A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE, February 1, 2010
By
This review is from: Davey and Goliath (4 pack) Volume 1-4 (DVD)
I remember watching Davey & Goliath every morning at 7:00am before going to school. Looking at them again, it's amazing what comes back and we purchased these in readiness for adopting my nephew. As another person commented, I am also going on 52, so about 40 years have gone by since I last watched one of these, but the values they teach are timeless. In these days of high tech and really polished "action" series, something with basic Godly values is a real change of pace that I hope he will appreciate. And a tip to those interested: we just picked up all 4 of these at our local DollarTree Store for $1 each (or $4 total). A real bargain and they play just fine. Good quality preservation for such an old classic.
