I would not consider myself a country fan in the least. I do, however, enjoy many different forms of music and have a collection that makes people say "Huh?". What does all this have to do with DAC? Well, I will tell you.. of all the CDs I owned, there was NO COUNTRY...

Why? Cause I can't stand the type of country that's gotten popular today and was of the first people in the crowd to throw out "crying in your beer" and "my dog left with another woman" statements about country. Though I must admit, through childhood brainwashing from my parents, I have always liked Kenny Rogers.

Then a college roomate (I went down South for college) had me listen to DAC. Amazing... I really enjoyed the songs.. and, after some time, I really listened to the words and had to buy my own... this one. This CD is still THE ONLY COUNTRY CD in my collection and that's probably the way it will stay... it sits next to Rap, Classical, Jazz, Heavy Metal, Soca, Reggae, Salsa, and even some New Age.

My father, who already enjoys country music heard the CD and loved it too. I let him borrow it and take it to work and his boss loved it... I had to fight to get it back! I have since gotten my father and his boss CDs... they blast the CD when no one else is in the office.

Try it out, you might like it... but you have to listen.

This is country when country wasn't cool. This is for true country fans, not fans of the overpopularized [junk]that frequents the radio in this day and age.
In response to the comments about his racist songs on the internet, most of them are actually Johnny Rebel misnamed, don't think everything on the internet is real, besides, most good country singers do have racist songs, even Merle Haggard has "I'm a white boy." Its freedom of speach.

First off, I would like to say that this is the only country CD you need. This is the only one I have, and I'm very pleased. Every song is really good. David can have slow songs, but then again a lot of the songs are just good ole country, and some of it's funny...like the last verse of "You Never Even Called Me By My Name." Also, if you can, check out his underground cd "18 X-Rated Hits." It is foul-mouthed and funny. If you are a major country fan or whatever, I bet you'll like this CD.

First off I am from Dallas Texas, which he says in one of his songs that he is from dallas texas.I own this Cd and it is unbeleveible.
The song that I listen to the most is "If that ain't country" because it talks about how david grew up. The songs on this here cd are great. He is one of the best outlaws of all time.

A cocky loser who thinks he knows women pretty well happens to see an old flame sitting in the "Silver Spoon Cafe." Apparently he's treated her badly in the past but he's shocked--shocked--that she doesn't want to start over by spending the night with him. "I used to love you a lot," she says as she walks out the door. From this well done opener the CD runs through the gamut of country music themes--homespun stories of drunks and ex-drunks, losers, grinding poverty, jail, and country music itself.

The songs are well written, well performed, well sung, and thoroughly entertaining. Mr. Coe's voice is a great instrument, sometimes "as smooth as Tennesse whiskey," other times a menacing snarl. This was my first exposure to David Allen Coe, and I can say I'm already a fan. I recommend this recording highly. If you are squeamish about certain words, though, it may not be for you. David Allen Coe is the most unusual "normalcy" in Country Music; he looks like the Rock 'n' Roll roadie who peddles the drugs backstage, but sings country music with all the feeling that Hank did; this CD is no exception. I've listened and loved Coe since his first albums when he got out of prison, and I've loved every one of them. "She Used To Love Me A Lot", and "Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile" are truly the representative sampling of his style and philosophy.

"If That Ain't Country (you can kiss my A...)" and "Longhaired Redneck" are classics of his madness within the method style of music.

"You Never Even Called Me By My Name" comes from a little known writer, who couldn't have done it any better than David.

Yes, while all of the cuts on this CD are excellent examples of his greatness, I would have added some of his best, instead of those that were someone else's, such as: "I Love Robbing Banks", "A Sad Country Song", "The Old Gray Goose is Dead", "I'm Gonna Hurt Her On the Radio" and "He Has To Pay For (What I Get For Free)".

Sound unusual, they sure are, but they represent a place in the history of Country Music that is definitely missing in today's "hot" sound; a time when the lyrics and music meant something, not just a "cute" singer with "nice buns".

Don't be misled by a Country "review" from a new york city yankee. This is a prime collection.

What can i say, DAC is the greatest country muscian ever. His music is classic and timeless and all yall that say he is racist then take this review and shove it. Rappers say worse stuff than DAC and yall only come on to DAC cuz hes white. Stupid Libs. Anyway DAC is great and this is his best CD. LONG LIVE DAC also RIP DALE EARNHARDT

I used to be a country hater but this man turned me onto country. This cd will do the same to anyone else. This is true country. The get drunk and fight country. There are rumors that DAC is a racist because of a few of his songs. The people who think that are ignorant and haven't listened to him. This cd is packed with 17 tracks that you can listen to without skipping one. I recommend this and other true country cds with all of my heart.
