About the Author

Rebecca Thatcher Murcia grew up in Garrison, New York, and graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She was a daily newspaper reporter—mostly in Texas—for 14 years. She is a soccer coach and player in Akron, Pennsylvania, where she lives with her husband and two sons. She is the author of other soccer biographies for Mitchell Lane Publishers, including Landon Donovan and Freddy Adu.

I graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in 1986. I worked at the Springfield (Mass.) Union-News and Sunday Republican, the Brownsville Herald and the Austin American-Statesman during a long career in daily journalism. My dear husband, Saul Murcia, died of cancer in 2005. Now I live in Akron, Penn., with my two sons.
