With the David Beckham phenomenon rumbling toward America, the advance guard in the form of merchandise has begun to appear. Since Beckham is part athlete, part brand, it's hard to know how much the superstar actually had to do with this book, which is a collection of game techniques and life clichés. On the plus side are concise explanations, accompanied by clear color pictures, of how young players can improve their dribbling, passing, and shooting techniques. How to bend free kicks like Beckham is also covered. Frequent references to aspects of youth soccer in England, however, are likely to confuse young readers. Beckham relates some of his soccer experiences as a boy and a professional, but he fails to give even the slightest glimpse of his personality. Young players looking to improve their game will find some useful advice here, but they won't get to know David Beckham in the process. Morning, Todd

It is a nice book. But I was more expecting a chance on his expertise on running drills for kids to get better. It is more of a fan book. Sort of an autobiography.
