I would recommend this book as a concise but sufficiently detailed summary of all relevant info on the D5100. It certainly is helping me to understand and use the camera correctly. Love it!

Being 60 and just starting a hobby of photography I don't have the easiest time remembering things, lol. I have the large book by David on the D5100 and love it but found myself always taking notes to bring with me on my outings. This pocket guide fills the void. It fits in my camera bag and is a great go to guide when I want to know how to use any function on my camera. I love the D5100 but it can get confusing with all these buttons on it. Whenever I need help I just reach in my bag and have my answer in no time. I love it and never take my camera without it.

Let's you know what all the buttons and settings are above what the manual does (extra info), but not real in depth on the how to aspect when it comes to using different lenses. Chapter 7 has shooting tips, but for a beginner they might not be clear enough to be confident. Not a whole lot of reference towards the kit lenses. And even then, there isn't a great deal of info on how to shoot for a variety of situations.

Very informative. Learned more from the book than the instruction manual. Written to be more of a pocket guide type reference book. enjoyed reading it very much.

David Busch does an excellent job of giving the information you need to operate your Nikon D5100 in a very clear and interesting way.
This book is perfect to carry with you as a quick reference for your camera. It covers every setting you will need to know in the field.

This book is such a great reference for the Nikkon D5100. It really has sooooo much detail. Perfect for your camera bag and has just the right amount of info. The bigger book has more information, but the kind that you can read at home.

This book as all the information that is in the manual except with detailed explanations on what everything does. It definitely helps you quickly get familiar with all the features and buttons.

I could buy the manual for $9. This book tell you about your camera with some helpful tips. The most important note in my mind is to format my SD card before another shooting session. I notice ever since the digital camera I have much less pictures to look at. Formatting the card make me download or print my pictures. Before this book god knows how many pictures I took and how many cards I lost. This was a good tip for me you may find something even more important. I think we all need to have a pro photographer friend to teach us how to capture moments that are once in a life time. I have MFA top in my classes sold enough paintings to realized why we are called Starving Artist . However, when it comes to photography not even as Art, in three words, god help me. That is why I rather books like this to just manuals. Good Luck.
