More About the Author

With nearly 1.5 million books in print, David D. Busch is the world's #1 selling author of camera-specific guidebooks, and the originator of popular series like David Busch's Pro Secrets, David Busch's Compact Field Guides, David Busch's Guides to Digital SLR Photography, and David Busch's Quick Snap Guides.

Most of his hugely successful books for Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax, Olympus, and Panasonic digital cameras are the top-selling guidebooks for their respective camera models. His advice has been featured on NPR's "All Tech Considered."

Busch's dozens of other books devoted to digital photography include David Busch's Digital Infrared Pro Secrets and Mastering Digital SLR Photography. As a roving photojournalist for more than 20 years, he has illustrated his books, magazine articles, and newspaper reports with award-winning images. It really bothers me that people actually go and buy a camera and never really learn how to use it. It seems to a status symbol. I always made it a point to see just what setting was being used. Probably 95 % of the time I saw either P or A. I even once heard a discussion about a new camera and how complicated the "instructions" were, "so I just keep it on automatic, the pictures are fantastic". To think they could have spent $200 instead of $800+ and take pictures that were just as fantastic. "An expensive Dslr makes me look like a real photographer." And digital photography allows practically anyone to shoot a good photo.

I didn't want to be one of those people. I had waited too long to buy my first Dslr camera. In the film days I carried around a Canon A-1 with a power winder and a 28- 250 zoom lens. It probably weighed 8 or 9 pounds, but took excellent photos. When digital cameras came on the scene they were small and light and did far more than my old A-1. When the first Dslr came out I was appalled at their size, weight and especially cost (around $1500-2000). So I waited for a small, light Dslr to hit the market. The Canon Rebel EOS SL1 is amazing but a little more than a novice Dslr (even though that is the category it was placed in) I decided that if I was going to spend that much for a great camera I better darn well learn how to use it to its full extent.

Mr. Busch's book is exactly what you need to squeeze every drop of performance from this fine camera and he leaves no stone unturned. he doesn't explain things he makes sure you learn them. I learned so much about this camera and about photography with this camera that I was in awe.

I bought the camera after a lifetime of wanting an SLR camera. My son bought the Rebel T3i for his wife. I found it a little too intimidating and pricey for me. When the introduced the SL1, the timing and price were right. Now, how to use the advanced features, after a lifetime of point and shoot models. Et voila! Mr. Busch publishes this excellent guide. Admittedly, I have only made it through the intro and chapter 1, but that is why I am writing this now. Mr. Busch writes with such an easy, conversational style, that it makes you want to go on. I'm giving it 5 stars as a guide for a neophyte such as I, but I believe even experienced DSLR users will find useful info in this book.

David Busch's Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D Guide to Digital SLR Photography is a fantastic book! Because this is my first DSLR camera, I knew that I needed a guide to understanding and learning about the different settings and functions. The chapters are very detailed and easy to follow. The figures and tables included in this book are very helpful. I haven't gone through all the chapters, but of what I've read and seen, I know that this book will teach me all that I need to know about my new camera.

I got this camera as a gift and was instantly overwhelmed with the functions, found this book tailored to the camera and have already had several"oh,so that's what that does" moments .Lots of detailed photo illustrations with concise information. Will most likely buy the companion field guide as well .Kudos to the author for presenting in an understandable format for newbies.

I haven't quite finished it yet but this is a must read for the SL1 and/or SLR newbies. Busch does an excellent job "dumbing" it down with his language and pictures. He really knows his stuff.
