I really was looking forward to the release of a camera book for the 5D Mark III that clearly describes and illustrates the multitude of features, settings and custom settings I can make. This is the book. It's not a skimpy book but one that is going to really get me to use some of the unique features I bought this camera for. I love the large clear screen shots of the camera displays. Another favorite are the tip boxes. I recommend this book to any new owner or user that really wants to make sure they are getting all they can from the camera.

When I reviewed his book on the 40D, I criticized him severely for making irrelevant comparisons to the 30D. I feared that this book would be full of irrelevant comparisons to the Mark II. My fears were groundless, as this book barely recognizes the existence of the Mark II.

Busch is a top-selling author for a reason: his books are well-written, understandable, well organized, and well illustrated. This book is no exception. If you are new to the Mark III, upgrading from one of the more amateur-oriented cameras (such as the 40D), then this is a must-have book. It will help you get running with the new features of the Mark III and solidify your knowledge of the more standard features of the less expensive Canons. Experienced Canon users of high-end cameras might not learn much from this, however. It's sort of your call.

I recently upgraded to the 5D Mark III and have been waiting patiently for this book! David's books never disappoint and this one is no exception. It is very well written and organized with plenty of great photo examples and tips. I appreciate the way each feature, option and control is described and the way actual situations are used to help me relate more closely to own photography. I highly recommend this book.

Setup and use of configurations in menus is covered in much more detail than the owner's manual. Too much basic photography information in the book - if you own a 5D3, you are way past the beginner stage and don't need the redundancy.

I have been waiting a long time for this book as I recently upgraded to the Canon 5d. I was first introduced to Mr Busch's books while taking photography classes at Lakeland Community College (Kirtland, Ohio). His book is always my second purchase after buying any new camera. His books are always easy to read, understand and the perfect complement to any camera.

I have heard so much about Daves books and after buying my 5D3 last year, I wanted to get more insight to all the ins and outs of the camera. As we all know, the manual that comes with the camera is boring, dry and doesn't give you the whys about the camera, only the whats. I tried to read through the Canon manual and it was just putting me to sleep and would not keep my interest. So I opted to get Daves books, both the main guide and the compact field guide. The book keeps me amused with Daves comedic sense of humor but more so, is extremely detailed and tells you everything you need to know on how to operate the camera and as well, why you should operate it a certain way versus what the Canon manual says. Thats the most important aspect of the book, it answers the why, how and whats. Extremely satisfied with the content of the book and highly recommend it to anyone that wants more education on your camera.

Worth the wait in finally getting published... I am happy to add this volume to my other Canon references by David Busch. As always, I bow to the master in presenting the finer details in more depth and with colorful and informative text and illustrations. David's contribution to the field of photography is always masterful and he even makes it more fun learn! Once again he hits the high mark in presenting not only the Canon 5D Mark III, but all the Canon Flash and many other accessories to boot. This is a "must have" reference for users at all levels of experience!

I really like this book, especially on the kindle. It is easy to move around and refer to different sections. The book is very comprehensive and I love the chapters on setting all the zillions of options and setting that this camera has. I like the fact that it is so up to date, even talking about the firmware update from a few months ago. My only critique is that the index is unusable, at least on the kindle edition. It doesn't have page numbers or hot links. Otherwise brilliant!

Best photography book I own. The only advice I would give the author would be to be more clear in the default setting section. The first part of the chapter should say that these settings are for the 3 creative settings on the camera. It is easy to believe that the default settings should be in some of the other settings like P,TV,AV, etc. This book is more comprehensive than the books for Dummies. A must have manual for owners of this wonderful camera.

The book has a quality look and feel and is interesting to read but has so many errors it detracts from its usefulness. It is kind of insulting to your readers to not edit your book properly. I'm talking serious errors here. The worst I've seen so far is in the first really potentially useful section of the book Chapter 3 Recommended Settings. The table of settings on page 46 is the kind of nonsense produced when one cuts and pastes one table to another without changing the info in it properly.

There is also a certain superficiality to it. As if it is not written by some one who really knows and loves the camera.

I almost bought the Compact Field Guide for the 5d mark iii by the same author. I'm glad I didn't though. I hope it is a lot tighter than this tome.

The author has such a great reputation based on other books. This one is really good but still disappointing relative to his reputation.
