5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Martial Art Workout, June 23, 1999
By
This review is from: David Carradine's Kung Fu Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have studied the martial arts for 21 years. This video provides an excellent workout for the martial artist in every sense! The extremely thorough stretching routine insure that no injury will occur, and the stances and basic run through on the punches and kicks allow the practitioner to become totally familiar with the basic techniques before putting them together in the combination excercises (similar to katas, or programs for the Karate or Tae Kwon Do students out there). In his book "The Spirit of Shaolin" David Carradine said that this was the "yin" (hard) of the two videos (the Tai Chi being the "yang" or "soft") and that it is challenging and even vigorous. I agree with this assesment and must give it my highest rating. of five stars. I expect to be using this video for a long time to come, and will definately purchase another one when this one wears out.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good video for slightly more advanced individuals, April 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: David Carradine's Kung Fu Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have Carradine's two tai chi tapes, and his chi kung tape in addition to this one. Since this one was made earlier, it has the flavor of the early tai chi tape.

It is a bit rushed in its instruction. It is also not as easy to follow as the other three tapes. If you are already a martial arts student, the stances and moves are all fairly simple.

If you are not a martial arts student, start with one of the tai chi tapes! This one requires you to have more stance knowledge, balance, and stamina! Of the four tapes Carradine has done, I would rate this one the lowest. Don't get me wrong, I like it -- but it is NOT for beginners.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent, December 25, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: David Carradine's Kung Fu Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
David Carradine and Sifu Kam Yuen gave me great gift. I had prejudice about kung fu based on superficial action movies and hype. But this is real. Tai Chi and Kung Fu changed my life for the better.
