1.0 out of 5 stars Not at all useful., December 11, 1998
By A Customer
The tape is not at all useful. It is difficult to learn Tai Chi from a tape and impossible to learn it from this one. The style is not well know in the US. The tape is not presented in a manner conducive to learning. The most popular Tai Chi style in the US is the Yang style. If you wish to try to learn Tai Chi from a tape, try "Tai Chi for Health" with Terry Dunn. The tape first shows the entire short form with a brief history of the art. That is followed with step-by-step instructions. The tape ends with the entire form again. I learned the sequence in about 4 months of intermittent study but constant practice. It is a nice form. I prefer to work with an instructor. He/she can explain more details and watch your form.

I have been trying to get comitted to the Marshall arts for 17 years With varring levels of success. This tape along with spending a weekend with David C.and Mike M.have given me a comittment that no other sensee has been able to do. The tape is fast moving and effective in its purpose. The Chi-Gung section is ecceptional for its effect and ease in following.Keep making tapes David at 60 + you are a credit to the art.

5.0 out of 5 stars A well-produced video, well-rounded exercise program, January 10, 2002

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
First let me disclose that I have seen about a couple dozen exercise and martial arts instructional videos in my life and I am by no means athletic. I have mostly been uninterested in exercise in my life. From that point of view, I have found this video very useful.

The first part is a decent and thorough, if a little rushed, stretching session. The second part has you slowly and gracefully perform repeating Tai Chi movements, which are linked in the third part into the single, long, contiguous Tai Chi form.

It's more work than it sounds, and I feel good after doing it. I can't do the complete form yet, but I don't mind, I like doing the "Tai Chi workout" anyway. I like being able to just do the stretches sometimes too, so that makes it even more useful.

One of the real advantages of this tape is that it is photographed in such a way as to let you see the action at all times. It bothers me when, in an exercise video, the camera comes in too close and you can't see what the people are doing with their arms and legs. That is not a problem with this video.

I say, give it a try.
