A very blunt look at life,
By
This review is from: David Chelsea in Love (Paperback)
I picked this book up at used book store for $5.00 the other day not knowing anything about the artist or the storyline. As an aspiring aritst myself and hopeful graphic novelist I found it very inspiring. I love how the characters are no sugar coated. Not even himself. He's not a hero and the people who come in and out of life during this time aren't all villians either.I've learned a lot by reading it this is style is amazing. A great read at whatever price I think this is really wroth it.

Ok, but a little soap-opera-y,

Since this is apparently based on real life, finding the plot improbable is probably unfair. But I did -I found it no suprise that David Chelsea is addicted to All My Children- the entire plot of the story resembles a soap opera, with everyone having sex with one another. Several characters (especially David and Minnie) I found extremely annoying. David, as he protrays himself, seems to think entirely with his member, and Minnie is arrogant to the extreme; considering herself more emotionally mature than others while actually being more infantile and petty than David (her frequent target).Aside form that, it was a kinda cool story. I especially like how it was most definately set in the 80s ( for instance, a character dismisses her partner's question on whether he should wear a condom because she's "not fertile at the moment", wheras nowadays wearing a condom would be a mater of choice). Also, since I'm an Oregonian, it was cool to see Portland as a major location for the story. OREGON RULES!

In Love With "Love",
By Steve Paradis (Davison, MI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: David Chelsea in Love (Paperback)
I discovered the second of four issues and spent a few months in 1993 finding the other three in comic shops throughout southern Michigan. Few searches have been so well repaid. It's one of the few things that truly recall and personify its eras--the universal optimism of the talented 20-something, the sense of personal freedom of the early 80's and the willingness to publish any comic of the early 90's. "David Chelsea in Love" may be the ultimate love-horror comic, but it's also a time machine that I find myself using more often as the age it captures fades.
