This splashy, classy book is a monograph written by David Choe, the name of the book being DAVID CHOE. It is an artwork in and of itself in that the artist wrote all the content, designed the layout of the book, edited the mixture and then added an Introduction that amounts to bits and pieces pasted from responses to his art from his blog - not a bad idea -, but 99% of these comments are extremely negative, suggesting that Choe is a fool, a racist, a plagiarist, and a artist with no talent! It is a very funny way to open a book that is like no other book you will encounter. This reader finds it fascinating, hilarious, thoughtful, daring, and in all a magnificent read and view that will find its way onto the lap repeatedly.

For background about the artist David Choe, of Korean heritage, we must turn to the internet info: 'David Choe was born 1976 in Los Angeles. Today he is currently homeless wandering the earth. Making good art and bad music. His favorite places are Vietnam, Israel, NYC, and the Bay Area. Even though he dropped out of art school, he still gets asked to speak at universities all the time. He works in all mediums, he can paint anything and everything, as well as on anything and everything. He has won lots of awards and his work can be found in every facet of society, from comics, murals, toys, prints, movies, magazines, books, T shirts, commercials, posters, shoes, fine art, live demos, etc. He says he wants to retire early and illustrate the entire Bible and paint the entire Great Wall of China. But who knows anything with this guy'. It is fairly obvious who the author of this CV is!

Sad stories, funny stories, stories of success, failure, adventures in train travel, money, cash, hoes... and art, amazing amazing amazing art. This book is a gloriously disturbing trip through the mind and work of a true artist.

I only gave David Choe four stars cuz I want to piss him off and keep him working hard. He's the James Brown of this art biz. This book is equally inspirational and frustrating, simultaneously making me want to go out and build/destroy and at the same time wanting to just quit. He's got so many different styles that are all his own and even his stuff I really don't like I still respect cuz you can see him in it. I'm just mad because I'll never have 10% of his talent and/or resolve. This book is beautiful. Thank you Sir Choe.

DAVID CHOE offers a collection of his various arts, which range from graffiti-like embellishments to paintings, cartoons, and startling commentary blending social observation with profanity. Art libraries will easily consider this a key acquisition for any collection profiling modern arts: it displays a range of pieces and accompanying angst and observations by an artist who offers no platitudes or compromises for his subjects and approaches. A fine and involving piece, this will reach any modern arts collection.

I would reccomend this book to any artist of any medium. David Choe uses so many mediums from oil paint, spray paint to soy sauce to blood. He was involved with the L.A>. Riots and even included his high school report on it. Every artist should own this book. He was so broke he wanted fish n chips, that he offered the cook a painting of the food so he could eat. This inspired me to use all kinds of medium and has diversified my art greatly. BUY IT!
