Customer Reviews

Solid Product, clean sound, very comfortable, very well made.
Greg Barton
The gel ear cups are super comfy and seal to your head even when wearing thick-framed sunglasses, and don't press the arms of the glasses into your temples.
Michael Madrid
I began flying with the 13.4 headset and would still today, recommend it to any potential student pilot browsing for a headset.

I have not tried an ANR (electronic noise canceling) headset to compare, as I can't get myself to shell out close to $1000 -- yet. What surprised me about the David Clark series was how many people vouched for their durability and customer service. I chose this relatively newer model 10-13.4 over the more traditional 10-30/40 series because I preferred the gooseneck-style mic boom. My head and ears are not overly large, and the headset is very comfortable, provides an effective seal against noise, was not objectionably hot nor heavy during summertime, and allowed wearing sunglasses without any problems. The pillow top spreads the headset weight on my head so I don't really notice them. The longest flight segment I have flown with these is only about 2 hours, so I cannot judge if long flight segments remain as comfortable.
A purchaser will need to order a carrying case, and one might also order some extra ear cushions.

To compare, I tried my instructor's minimalist Clarity Aloft ($500+) -- a completely different style of extremely lightweight, in-the-ear passive NR headset and found them comparable in noise abatement, but much lighter. Other pilots who fly a lot prefer this style.

Pro: Excellent model for the price point, good quality manufacturing, reportedly excellent customer service. No need for batteries and similar maintenance of ANR style headsets.

Con: Would be nice if the manufacturers would include a carrying case for the headsets.

Listen, people, there's a reason this headset (and the older version) is worn by more pilots than any other. Simply put, they do what they're supposed to do, without any fuss.

The gel ear cups are super comfy and seal to your head even when wearing thick-framed sunglasses, and don't press the arms of the glasses into your temples.

The boom mic stays put and sounds great - directional electret rejects most ambient noise in noisy cockpits, when windows open during taxi, etc. In other words, your co-pilot and the tower hear you, not your airplane, when you key-up.

Add an in-line BlueTooth adapter to listen to music through the stereo 13.4's - no need to spend $1000 for Bose or Lightspeeds to get BlueTooth. And the drivers actually sound great for music, not just intercom speech.

Made in America with an honest warranty, and an honest company that actually stands behind their product. You won't regret this purchase.

Like another reviewer, I've owned this headset for nearly 10 years and they still look and feel new. These are incredibly well made and are comfortable enough for my wife to wear on long trips as well. Plus, DC customer service is first class, so they will fix them cheap or free if anything ever goes wrong, which is unlikely. Last year I flew to Alaska in my aircraft with a friend who brought along his fancy new Lightspeed headset. The Lightspeed lasted 7 hours and the electronics wouldn't turn on, even with new batteries. Good thing for him I had a spare DC H10-13.4 headset under the back seat. He used it for the rest of the trip. In the cockpit, reliability is the most important thing, and that's what these deliver.

Many people regard the David Clark 13.4 Headset as the standard in aviation headsets; I am one of these individuals. I began flying with the 13.4 headset and would still today, recommend it to any potential student pilot browsing for a headset. The David Clark 13.4 Headset is affordable, comfortable, and durable; hence, why this model has been a success for several years. The only downside to the David Clark 13.4 is that this headset is not an Active Noise Reduction (ANR) headset.

Verified Purchase
I purchased this headset "used" (it arrived looking brand-new however. The plugs were barely scratched, still difficult to plug into the plane. Noise isolation of this headset is very good, clamping force not too lose and not too tight, the cushion on top is very comfortable. After a 1.5 hr flight I almost forgot I had the headset on.
For GA pilots, that don't fly more than 4-5 times a month and not longer than 2.5 hr legs, the headset is a good choice. Having the comparison with a Bose Aviation headset, I have to admit that fatigue is greatly reduced on longer flights with an ANC equipped headset.

I've had this headset for 3 years. Never gave me any trouble. It doesn't have active noise canceling or bluetooth, but you never run out of batteries either because it requires none. I also have the Bose A20 and honestly the difference is not that great with noise canceling on the Bose.

I have a wide and big head (XXL motorcycle helmet) but this headset is quite comfortable on long trips.

David Clark really know how to take care of their customers. The mic foam fell off and they gladly replaced it for free. They've got my future business that's for sure.

I've had my Dave Clark H10-13.4 headset since 1998. It's never given me a problem and is bulletproof tough and reliable, comfortable too. It stood up to 1200 hours of dual given hopping in and out of airplanes all day long and still rides around in my flight bag as a backup headset 7000 flight hours later. Unlike more expensive ANR headsets I know it will work every time I pull it out of my flight bag. Don't waste your money on some crap Lightspeed headset get this and it'll be the last headset you ever need to buy.
