Feldman Continued,
This review is from: David Lang: Child (Audio CD)
I generally love Lang's work. Typically, his compositions grab hold of me and refuse to relenquish their grasp until the very end. He writes in minimalist fashion, but has far more in common it seems with Morton Feldman than Glass, Reich or Riley, and for my money (and musical taste), he and Annie Gosfield are the two formost original thinker-doers in modern classical compositon. They're not simply differnt for the sake of being such, but their work is clever, beautiful, mysterious and haunting. All of those terms apply to the works on this disk, and Sentieri Selvaggi, an Italian version of Bang On A Can, is obviouly in close spiritual harmony with the composer and on the mark in every moment it seems. This disk along with his "Passing Measures", holds a special place in my collection. I also highly recommend Gosfield's "Flying Sparks and Heavy Machinery" and "Burnt Ivory and Loose Wires" as well as any Morton Feldman stuff curently in print. Enjoy.

I listened to the track "Sweet Air" on WNYE 93.9FM in NYC and was blown away. David's music is enveloping! I was completely overwhelmed by the sublime beauty of his counterpoint harmonies. I absolutely had to have this CD.
Do your mind, body and soul a favor and listen to this CD! |
