Around the holidays, nearly all of my students want to play Christmas music. It can become really tiresome, but I love this book. Joy to the World, O Come O Come Emmanuel, The Christmas Eve Waltz/The First Noel, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and Angels We Have Heard On High are played at just about all of my student Christmas recitals. A few of the arrangements are less than stellar, but the good ones are GREAT! The shorter improvised pieces with the theme of angels from the recording are also included. If you are an intermediate or above pianist, I highly recommend this collection. The arrangements are faithful to the traditional melodies, but add a new spirit to them.

This music is beautiful. You too can sound just like David Lanz on the piano! My favorite pieces are What Child is This, The First Noel/Christmas Eve Waltz, and Silent Night. An intermediate level player can bring tears to your eyes playing those songs. I'm sure you will love it.Christmas Eve

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Christmas Solo Books!, February 1, 2008
This review is from: David Lanz - Christmas Eve: Piano Solo (Paperback)
I have owned this for about 9 years now, and my family and friends beg me to play songs from the book every Christmas. If you like David Lanz's Christmas Eve cd, this is perfect because the songs are basically the same as he plays. His style is unique and beautiful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love The Arrangements But One Thing, December 5, 2011
This review is from: David Lanz - Christmas Eve: Piano Solo (Paperback)
I really think this is an awesome book to study and play David Lanz' music, and right at my level to test my sigh reading abilities. However, I just do not understand why a major music publisher cannot figure out how to make a piano book stay open. Maybe it will in time, and I am working with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars You are in for a great surprise!, January 20, 2011
This review is from: David Lanz - Christmas Eve: Piano Solo (Paperback)
This book is delightfully surprising! When I had first gotten it, I flipped through it, and my heart sank to my toes. They looked SOOO easy!! When I began to play them, a rich, lovely melody just flowed off my fingers. They're a snap to learn and
you can imitate David Lanz note fo note. I agree wholeheartedly with the other reviewer who stated that this is an awesome way to really study his style. These bring a unique, refreshing sound to the old, 'worn-out' Christmas songs we all grow so tired of. They're AMAZING for students, because they are easy, and yet they sound so lovely. My students really felt like they accomplished something when they were able to play these. My absolute FAVORITE is the 'What Child Is This' arrangement.
I do believe that is the most over-arranged Christmas song of all time, and now this is the only arrangement of that song that I'll listen to or play. It makes all the other ones seem overdone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Music, October 29, 2010
This review is from: David Lanz - Christmas Eve: Piano Solo (Paperback)
If you love Christmas music or if you love David Lanz, this book is a must! I have been playing out of this book for about 6 years and now have all but a couple of the pieces "playable" for an audience. They will be so impressed to hear you play this magical music, because it sounds a lot more complicated than it is.

I would go ahead and get this book instead of the "easy" version. These pieces are easy enough to simplify by playing single notes instead of chords in some places, or arpeggiating the left hand in octaves instead of 10ths as Lanz so frequently does. Every year, I am able to take a few places where I have simplified and play it as written and it is really coming together. You really just never get tired of working on this. I took lessons as a child and teenager, but now as an adult, I just play for my own pleasure, so if this "has-been" can conquer this music, anyone can!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great study of David Lanz's Style, January 7, 2009

This review is from: David Lanz - Christmas Eve: Piano Solo (Paperback)
This book is an excellent opportunity to study David Lanz's style. Sure the same could be said of any of his sheet music books; the difference here is that you can study how he has arranged songs that we are all familiar with. So if you compose music, you can study the arrangement technique and apply it to melodies you compose yourself.
